Answers: cut taxes, stop wasting money?

One in five 'have mortgage fears'

"... the FSA is sufficiently concerned about the situation that it is launching a £2m advertising campaign and an advice guide for homeowners. The FSA is concentrating its campaign on householders whose fixed-rate deals are coming to an end this year".

  • Yeah – I’m intrigued to know what pearl of wisdom they are going to share with people. “don’t borrow so much next time you idiot!”, or perhaps “You bought the flat screen HD ready TV, now f****ing well pay for it!”

  • I hear that mortgage experts believe the FSAs web-site on finance to be non-compliant by it’s own rules.

  • Can you imagine the advert? A frosty sunrise over a thatched village viewed from afar.. zooming into a AGA kitchen with the coffee pot steaming,
accompanied by “this is M&S” style music, panning out to bluecoat children jumping into the parents MEW’d silver Range Rover,
then finally to the stable block, steaming hay and a cockrell, the stable door swings open a black stallion rushes out bursting through the scenic idyll.
The voiceover says ” keep up your payments or lose the lot.” Brought to you by your own taxpayers money
and the FSA. We have been asleep in the saddle for almost a decade. wonderful stuff.

  • What an absolute waste of money – if the regulators had overseen responsible borrowing/lending from outset then UK Plc would not be in the mess it is now.

Chris Pond, FSA Director of Financial Capability was interviewed live on BBC radio for the North this morning regarding its advertising campaign and where borrowers can go for help – they are obviously panicking in case we go into meltdown US style

All this is a bit late in the day (IMO)

  • If this and other articles are meant to bully the BoE into rate cuts they need to remember that the banks have made absolutely no effort to drop lending rates to consumers so far and I seriously doubt any pleading by VI’s will make them do so. So the saying ‘pissing in the wind’ jumps to mind when viewing the Fed and BoE monetary poilcy recently.

Perhaps they should also spend some money teaching the financial sector not to give out “lair loans” in the first place…
