Slow news day…

I'm going Batty for Wembley

JONATHAN WOODGATE is being driven Batty because he cannot find a decent-priced house to buy in London. The Spurs millionaire centre-back's only problem so far has been finding a pad for himself and his girlfriend. He said: “I’m still living in an hotel. We have looked at houses and it’s a lot more expensive than it is up north. “House prices are a joke, it’s unbelievable. But that’s London. Hopefully, I can find a house and get settled. You just want the right place. “It’s expensive for everyone. You don’t want to be blowing stupid money on a house.”

  • To be honest, this guy is not really living in the same world,as most of us, and so his expectations are considerably distorted. I am sure he could buy most of the bloggers on this site a perfectly amazing house, but he has been so long on the champagne trail that the gold is probably not the right shade of gold for the taps and the indoor swimming pool is slightly larger than his girlfriend feels comfortable in etc. etc. It is, however, nice to know that even the very rich find the properties in London massively over priced, as well as us mere mortals, but it is the expectations of the sellers, in most cases, rather than the buyers (as in this case) that needs to change if the inequalities are to be removed.

The Tottenham defender has seen his hands full of house brochures over the years following spells with Leeds, Newcastle, Real Madrid and Middlesbrough, but Woodgate is currently residing with his girlfriend in a hotel as he looks for the perfect footballers’ pad.

He said: “We need to find a place to live. We’ve seen apartments, we’ve seen houses and all the prices and it’s a lot more expensive down here than it is up north.

“I think you could buy 10 penthouses up north for the price of something down here.

“House prices are a joke, they are. It’s unbelievable. When you are looking about and you see some of the houses, you think “What?”

The £60,000 a week defender added: “But that’s London and that’s the way it is. Hopefully, I can find a house and get settled.

“You just want the right place for you and you want to get it at the right price. You don’t want to end up getting ripped off in any way, do you?

“It’s expensive for everyone, isn’t it? You don’t want to be blowing stupid money on a house.”

If Woodgate has found it a tough slog sounding out a house, spare a thought for Chelsea’s Michael Ballack.

The 31-year-old German international earns more than double Woodgate’s salary, but was still forced to rent a house in Wimbledon when he first moved to London with his family in 2006.

That’s the nub of it, yes.

  • Nice to know the super rich are priced out as well. Am I right in thinking that London is the most overpriced area in the world? It certainly was for office space and probably residential as well.

  • The important point to realise here is that he has lived in Madrid. So even though it’s expensive as well, he has now seen what you get for your money elsewhere. The Value difference to Mr Woodgate is no doubt enormous and he probably cannot get his head around this, causing utter confusion in his wallet area.

  • Isn’t he that ball booting thug who was convicted of affray and worse a few years back? Good to see the moronic rich creating value
