Inflation – No! Surely Not? Not Here In The UK (Yeah Right)

Rising Inflation Creates Unease in Middle East

Even as it enriches Arab rulers, the recent oil-price boom is helping to fuel an extraordinary rise in the cost of food and other basic goods that is squeezing this region’s middle class and setting off strikes, demonstrations and occasional riots from Morocco to the Persian Gulf.

  • And there’s the key – inflation enriches those who can afford assets, who own companies and whose spend on basic goods is a miniscule part of their income. The rest of us are shafted. No wonder inflation seems to be the ruling classes preferred way out of this mess – meanwhile we can be kept quiet with fiddled figures and self-policing right-wing sentiment (it’s all the immigrant’s fault, strikes are wrong, public protest is wrong, work longer hours).

  • It’s amazing how well a few “so called” good years erode the very fabric of society. As you say SB. Much longer working hours and now what little carrot there was is being taken away. From now we’ll be expected to work even longer for less.Drunken and out of control kids that only look up to gangsters. Teenage pregnancies at record levels. Prisons so full that even burglary isn’t worthy of a stretch any more.

  • Working longer hours is not he answer, many people are working at least 5 hours per week longer than they were when New Liebor got in power just to keep their heads above the financial water. The thought of working even longer hours for the same or less is not somewhere anyone wants to voluntarily go especially when everyone realises whose fault it all really is.

  • In my opinion there is one thing behind the seeming collapse of values – the promotion of ‘i’m alright jack’ individualism, destruction of community and dumbing down of the masses by successive right-wing governments (including the current one) over the last 30 years, all of which are essential for the expansion of wealth and power to the ruling elite – or ‘economic growth’ as it is commonly known.
And I don’t buy the New World Order nonsense by the way – this is just the way the powerful have always ruled.
