Naive day traders get eyes 'wiped' hoping for Northern Rock share price bounce

As Northern Rock's share price continued its collapse last week The Share Centre reported a 591% increase on the previous week's account openings as investors have swooped to take advantage of a weaker Northern Rock share price. Northern Rock also accounted for 34% of all deals on 20th September. The speed with which the accounts were opened illustrates the advances in online share dealing technology; investors can now react to changes in the stock market, without having to wait days for their applications to be processed. Even with greater measures for consumer protection, the share dealing industry can now move as swiftly as the prices of shares themselves.

  • One in the eye for all the smug bulls last week who piled into NR shares because they thought the crisis was simply a result of media hype acted on by ‘naive idiots who don’t know anything about the economy or markets’ (how often do we hear that from the nervous ‘experts’….). The idea that it might have reflected deeper ills within the system was dismissed as doomsayer nonsense. Oh dear.

I think I’m going to make a small purchase of gold to hedge some of my cash savings.
If we get deflation cash wins, if we get inflation, gold wins.

To my eyes, we are barely cutting the crest of this peak and it’s likely the meeja has wet its powder by running out the suporlatives too early.
