The Bank of England left interest rates at 5.75 per cent on Thursday, and said it was keeping a close eye on market developments to see how they would affect companies and consumers.

  • I will give them a clue; great depression.

but the good news is that they needn’t interrupt their plans of raising rates too much as we will have hyper inflation and a failing currency.

there. that saved them all that effort of keeping their ever experienced eye on the matter.

  • su, it’s not calculated, it’s agreed with the supermarkets. Amazing those price wars at the right time ?

Wouldn’t want their land bank values dropping would we.

  • I’m sorely tempted to join the travelling community and set up a semi-permanent site on their land banks. That should bring the value down!

  • SU, Inflation is the rate of increase in prices. The reason why you see the inflation static is because the price of Oil was $78 a barrel last year and was today a little over $75.
Although you feel that the price is still high but actually on comparision its not that way.

Also as it is rate of increase of price, so if something was £100 last year and it went upto £110 and this year it went up to £112. Inflation is 2 * 100 / 110 = 1.818%
But what it does not tell you that you have already absored the earlier rate rise.

Remember Mervyn King saying, the inflation from oil price rising will smooth out, this is what he ment. If the price remains same as last year inflation is 0.
But you are still paying the higher price.
