This does not make sense to anyone with an IQ over 50

Will house prices keep on rising?

The writer of this piece says that building more houses will not solve the housing crisis, but more BTL will. "...3 million new houses by 2020 is not in fact enough ..." "... And that means rapidly growing the rental sector..." Er.. hello ? I'd have thought that even the BBC could work out that you still need to build a house before you let it !!

  • This is possibly the most shockingly stupid and unintelligent pieces of journalism I have ever encountered.

And we pay a licence fee for this crud?!?!

He “almost” makes some really good points. It sounds to me as if he is copying ideas from more intelligent writers without actually understanding the situation.

  • BTL landlords dont need to build more houses, they just take a decent sized house and turn it into 10 small flats. Problem solved.

  • I think this is patronising, and fails to recognise the situation.

As Imbreda says, he snatches at diverse ideas and jumbles them up. I wonder who recruited this new grad.

With clueless articles like this he is well on the way to becoming a contestant for an unwinnable seat in the next election. “One remedy that has been suggested is to bring in progressive, and even punitive, taxation on larger and more expensive homes”. Clearly a chancellor of the future….

  • This doesn’t tell us anymore than we know. If Gordon Brown wants to resolve the problem (if it is and not a purely political inconvenience caused by you know who), then presumably he will tax it? Not that I advocate that but it looks on the cards that he will raid the BTL coffers?

  • Yes, it’s good isn’t it, apparently there won’t be enough houses to buy but there will be enough houses to rent!

You’d think that even this hack could then work out that it’s being able to afford to buy that’s the problem, not the number of houses!

He thinks, “What could possibly have made houses unaffordable for so many, when there are still plenty of houses to rent out there then? Somebody must have been able to BUY those houses, and they have decided TO LET them. Mmmm, no, still don’t get it…” 🙂
