Housebuilder half-yearly profits up 10%

Barratt posts £180m profits

Barratt, the homebuilder who recently purchased competitor Wilson Bowden, has posted its interim results, which show solid increases in business and revenue. Charkes Toner, the chairman, attributed their success to a cohesive business model and a market where demand outstrips supply.

  • Demand isn’t outstripping supply on the Barratt estate where I live (renting, thankfully!). Approximately 90 properties, plenty of them still unsold by Barratt. Of those that have sold, maybe 1/3 are back up for sale privately. Most of the other properties are let out, and a few of those are sat empty. One property has been repossessed and is back on the market now for £5k ess than it was originally sold for 2 years ago when it had an “off-plan” discount. My neighbour took their house off the market following 6 months without an offer.
