Inflation

BBC News: Inflation 'a blot' on UK economy

The threat of rising inflation is "a blot" on prospects for the UK economy, an influential study has argued. Accountants BDO Stoy Hayward said the strong housing market and an upturn in consumer spending would act as major drivers of future economic growth.

I never really understand how a strong housing market and consumer spending can be seen as a driver of economic growth. All are fuelled by debt and surely none create any wealth? How can they unless we are talking about foreign investment?

Perhaps I am a bit thick, can anyone explain?

How can they suggest a rate rise is likely and also say that the housing market is strong? Surely it should be "Housing market teeters on the edge of a precipice and could come crashing down when interest rates rise so consumer spending will be non-existent"
