Sunday Times: Avoid greedy banks’ money-making ploys

The “big five” — Barclays, NatWest/Royal Bank of Scotland, HSBC, HBOS/Bank of Scotland and Lloyds TSB — made a total of Ł33.4 billion this year. Fat Prophets, a consultant, predicts this will soar by 50% over the next nine years. The banks make a large chunk of their profits from costly insurance policies and “premium” accounts. The best way to avoid adding to their coffers is to shun these products.
