2009 General Election ?

Looks to me like the window for even the slightest chance of a labour victory has long past, especially the way the Sun newspaper has been writing recently. He's proved he doesn't have the balls to go for it before, so I can't see him doing it now.

Nah huge terrorist alert just before election time HAS to be announced and emergency powers enacted to delay it as long as possible.

Also when the election comes only postal voting will be allowed at which Labour supporters will be given 3 votes each completely by accident and completely by accident Tory voters will be given 2 votes.....

Election boundaries will be shuffled so that only a 125% vote for Tory will get labour out...

People will 'mug' the post men and run off with sack fulls of votes....

And voting forms will be written in txt speak so that anybody who isn't a chav cannot possibly hope to understand it.

I think he will be forced out by summer

the longer he stays the bigger the defeat

too many marginal seats at risk

I think his biggest enemy is (still) Mandelson

his position is quickly becoming untenable

in fact he is becoming a laughing stock

his only ace up the sleeve was the misguided belief that he actually

was competent regards the economy

Blairs bombshell (Mandy inspired no doubt) that it was just luck

will be more damaging than we realise

a night of the long knives awaits

surely we cannot allow 2 people to run the country

without the countries endorsement at the polls

My sarcasm & irony detector isn't running on full power. Should it be screaming with alerts right now?

will there be a general election in 2009?

presumably for 2009 it would be in May which isn't that long away.

I cant see it will make stuff all difference ive been around for almost 50 years now and it seems to me that all of our politicians are as incompetent and corrupt as each other.

As soon as they get into power its "noses in" time for the greedy sods.

So I don’t know who to vote for but the raving loony’s are at least honest about it

The 2004 Civil Contingecies Act means that the gov't is no longer obliged to call a general election within 5 years.

They would not make such an Act if they did not intend to use it.

Ah! There was a lot of this kind of speculation about the US elections in November.

I think an action as undemocratic as that might actually stir the people. They wouldn't dare do this.

Edit: typ-oh!

New Labour is the result of that fustration, they gave up on democracy after being rejected and created a state

based on abusing the people.

The whole thing is one big ****** you in return for the rejection they suffered.

I think the election will be in 2010 unless there is a good showing by ZaNu Lab in the May local elections followed by a good showing in the June Euro elections.

I work in politics, not saying anymore, but can confirm the local elections and Euro elections will be held on the same day - June 4th. It is considered highly unlikely (bordering on suicidal)that Brown will want a General Election on the same day.

Remote outside chance of an election this year - but expected in 2010.

No they didn't.

I heard Neil kinnock on AM show,BBC1 a couple of sundays ago and he spoke of us having a "democratic socialism" in this country.

They really are completely delusional.

If railroading through half-baked bin/thought police, stasi snoopers,ID cards, council jobsworths is democratic then these lot need to be shot.

They can have a bit of their democracy staring down the barrel of an SA80.

Mandy will try to fool him into going short term. The New labour project is more important than Brown.

The PBR is the thing that has changed things. The sheeple and media realised what a state we are in when they heard how much borrowing Labour were admitting to but that was based on a projection of coming out of recession mid 2009.

If we are going to see 3% contraction of the economy 2 x the rate for the whole of the early 80's recession, when the economy was restructure for a command style soviet bloc economy to a free market one.

Ask yourself what will the true borrowing be?

Once they have to come clean about that, then people will see everything they say is crap.

When I heard the PBR I immediately thought this is either the most stupid piece of economic forecasting or a piece of spin to last a few months so they can have a quick election.

If he goes early the Labour party can regain more seats and blame all of the hardship over the next 5 years on the Cons.

If he waits till 2010 then the economy cannot be blamed on anyone else and they will pay the price for a long time.

Mandy will try to fool him into going short term. The New labour project is more important than Brown.

I know we have a keeness on conspiracy theories - but sorry there is no way Gordon Brown could call off a general election. His MPs - some of whom have principles - wouldn't support such nonsense. It just wouldn't happen.
