See, its much better than most other parts of the UK! I wish I could afford to relocate to south London, there's never a dull moment and Im sure my kids would have a top education

In fairness, though, I don't think you would get too much of that in East Sheen. East Sheen is in south London, but probably has crime rates more like those in outlying market towns than most of the south London battlefields that you refer to.

Exactly

I've just moved into London from Cheltenham, the violent crime figures there are worse than my area of London according to www.upmystreet.co.uk

Wow, I was aware there was no culture outside London, but I hadn't realised there was no crime as well!

The problem with London is that it ruins you for anywhere else in the UK.

The full stop went in the wrong place, rover2000.

I'd posted this earlier

Looks like this is no3 queens rd, bought in jan 2006 for 304k. So next door, 1A, sold for £481,500 last June.......that was previously 290K sale in Oct 2003. Bubblicious.

and I've just checked on google street map and I was indeed correct. We are all big brother now!

No sold price up as yet...

In fairness, though I CAN understand why some people find it strange why others would live in London. When you see a small house like the one in this thread on the market for c.£400k, it must be quite strange for people living in places up north where similar houses go for £50k.

People from London and the more expensive parts of the SE do have a different perspective on property than anyone else. Most of the people that I know from the north do not consider flats or terraced housing as starter homes. For them, a 3 bed semi is a reasonable starter home before moving on to a 4+ bed detached when having a family.

This leaves a lot of these type of properties in the north to 'less desirables' hence the type of argument on this thread.

your friends in the north hey ? I dont think they are really all that representative of the species

Growing up there we were considered affluent because we had a 2 bed semi. The rich had 4 bed detached houses. Many families even grow up and spend their lives living in terraced houses !!

i was going to say, well ive said it, saying it, and others have said.

this is more like the realistic reality prices, once the fluff and (under dip) has happened.

anything else is sheer 'designer label'

Thats not the house. Doesn't look like 3 Queens Road either.

True, I am probably as guilty of generalising about the 'the north' as much as some on this thread are about London.

That is my individual experience though, some of those people I refer to live in the suburbs north of Newcastle and some around Hull. Probably about 8 different households in total, and all of them would be alarmed at the idea of the East Sheen house in this thread being anything more than a starter home.

None are particularly high earners, but all started by buying a 2 bed terrace or small semi, and all have now moved on to larger semis or small detached houses. All are in the 30-something age range now.

Yes and since I wrote that I moved out of East London into leafy Gidea Park. Still London officially but with some pleasant countryside not far away (well Essex).

Why do you say that? If you look at the picture in front of her door on the original article with it's odd knocker and then zoom in on Google street map - it is definitely the same one. The fact it also sold for £304 k as per the article is a bit of a giveway too is it not?

There is a black railing missing from the picture.

As for 3 Queens Road, it doesn't look anything like it.

That's not 3 Queens Road. You're looking at the wrong end of the street. Here it is:

I don't know how anyone affords to live there. I've only ever been on a visit and felt I was being mugged just paying for lunch.

Hmmmm

Apart from the cost of property, I haven't noticed any appreciable difference in the cost of things here in SWLondon compared to Gloucestershire... maybe Glouc is freakin' expensive too?

If anything, eating out is better value in London (apart from those places with snob value of course), in my experience.

Possible that Gloucestershire is expensive ?, but I did go to the touristy bits so maybe that explains it.
