Cpi And Rpi Figures To Be Published On Tuesday 12 Aug 08

Recommended Posts

The CPI figure (YoY increase) published on Tuesday 12 Aug is likely to be a biggie. The last figure published was 3.8%. If there is no increase in prices at all then the new figure will be 4.4%. For some reason prices fell from June to July 2007.

Here's the maths:

CPI Jun 07 = 105.0

CPI Jul 07 = 104.4

CPI Jun 08 = 109.0

CPI YoY increase Jun 07 to Jun 08 = ((109.0 / 105.0) -1) * 100 = 3.8% (the latest figure published)

CPI YoY increase Jul 07 to Jul 08 = ((109.0 / 104.4) -1) * 100 = 4.4% - if we assume CPI for Jul 08 = 109.0 (ie no price increase from last month).

Likewise RPI increase would go from 4.6% to 5.2%.

So who'd like to guess the actual figures?
