DabHand
Was on Radio 4 yesterday. Eric would have loved it. They had a journo posing as an illegal trying to get a mortgage. The broker was only too happy to arrange "an associate" to put some forged stamps in his passport to prove his right to remain. Wouldnt want a little thing like that getting in the way of every ones right to borrow endlessly. Essentially fraud is shooting up as people are less able to legally get mortgages. Brokers are happy to oblige and help where possible.

notthereyet
they are doing what now? Nothing surprises me anymore with the mortgage industry, this is just another example of things that got us into the mess we are in: and why no one can say when we are going to get out of this mess, because we do not at present know the true scale of the liar loans etc.

As in, for some countries you have to have a minimum amount of capital in order to be able to house and support yourself, a job to go to, minimum education standards... other countries (Saudi, Germany?...) you can come in to work but don't become a full citizen... so what exactly is the UK's? Is it just basically anyone... anyone... whether economic migrant, gang rapist, drug smuggler/dealer/, terrorist/supporter, murderer, organised criminal, fraudster, voodoo witch doctor etc etc etc etc etc etc etc, WE JUST DON'T CARE! Just come to the UK and help put the final nails in the coffin of a dying country? Is that it basically?

Uk imigration system is alot tighter than you think and remaining loopholes are being tied up, but in a nutshell: 1. points based system for everyone outside of europe, basically if your earning more than 40k (or equivalent in your own country), trained as one of the skilled migrant jobs (doctor, laywer etc etc) have a top job or you have a degree your allowed in. 2. claim asylum but you have to have come from a VERY limited number of countries and its not easy. 3. Europeans are allowed to travel and work in any other European country, you could work in Germany if you liked without needing additional documentation Loans/Mortgages can be attained by illegal immigrants because we have crap IT systems and the quality of forged documents is amazing. If you wanted you could invent an NI number (just pick a number out of thin air) and start using it and working on it, employers struggle to understand visa requirements and fake passports look almost identical to real ones. When your working you could build up some banking history, get a bank account and create a credit record/credit file on your fake passport/ID, then get a loan/mortgage, nice and easy, MEW send the money abroad then disappear. IDcards would help because you will need to go to an interrogation centre and get scanned/dna taken/ and your documents will be analysed first but its not a solution as every system can be broken... Does this mean that if, for example you came from a country with an average wage of £1/day you would have to earn 5 times this - the princely sum of £5/day to qualify? 2. I heard that some people from the U.S. came over and claimed asylum, so they could get a free house + medical care + a bit of a holiday. Is the U.S.A. one of the VERY limited number of countries? Justice
Uk imigration system is alot tighter than you think and remaining loopholes are being tied up, but in a nutshell: If this is the case then why are we still getting flooded ? We are an island nation and yet we get more illegals than other parts of europe because zanLabour loves em cus they all become labour voters and it's a money for votes scan. Two types of immigrants : Legal and Illegal In my opinion most of the legal immigrants would be from EU countries (Poland etc) and illegal ones from south asian countries (not all but mainly). Why do they want to come to UK? Lure of Pound - they know that it is (and it still is) a strong currency and because of the conditions back home. The day the Pound loses its attraction most of the legal immigrants would go back.
