Converted Lurker

Why No Obama Rally In Hyde Park?

Recommended Posts

still struggling with the image of 200K turning out for a rally in Berlin, wtf was that all about, was it really 200K or more like 20K? Did it co-incide with a free case of Coke for every attendee....I know the Germans used to like their rallies* but :o

*attempted humour, no racism/xenaphobia intended ;)

The germans do not have a broke economy.

Obama will need good economies to support his own (if elected)

Germans will rally for anything. They have a penchant for chanting and cheering iconic leaders.

Give them a uniform and a handsome flag and they're even happier.

we had an estimated 500K come to look at the tall ships coming into/exiting L'pool over the past week, no way of verifying the figure, probably exaggeretd by the local council, but IMHO folk are so bored of 'shopping' anything free and a bit different grabs the attention. But for 200k to turn up must have required an awful lot of meeja assistance in Germany; how he's portrayed, lionised as the savoiur of the new world order...just odd how it's not grabbed the attention as much here, are we as a nation so much more cynical? Had to laugh, BBC news 24 last night were citing that Obama was to meet; Blair, Brown and Cameron in that order, then they changed the running order...perhaps he's already after tips on how to get a job with Morgan Stanley 'post office'... ;)

There was a free concert there just before Obama's speech... ;)

Bingo! We have a winner. So they turned out for the concert and the vain glorious 'muther' just happened to turn up...

Obama is more Preacher-In-Chief than a political leader with any substance. I think even Blair had more depth.

The Germans are big on dressing up as Yee-hawin Yankee doodle cowboys and having barn dances, they love it. I think they see Obummer as some sort of Cowboy-in-Chief. And it was all clearly a cheap attempt at riding on Kennedy's hallowed coat tails.

They know if they tried it here they'd end up with a mass stop-the-war demo on their hands, and some American representative of centre-left politics is not exactly welcome in a country that is crying out for a big swing to the right.

I think Gordon Brown might well want McCain to win - an Obama victory would make him seem even older and more out of touch with the times. You can sort of see Obama and Cameron working well together come 2010 (their politics are similar and they are both about some unspecific concept of change).

Its also interesting that Obama's poll ratings seem to be declining slightly as a result of his world tour. Clearly many Americans hate the thought of having a President who might be popular in the rest of the world. As one of the right wing Fox News commentators said last night - Americans want a President who will preserve American world supremacy. Charming!

Obama scares me- I keep thinking of the misguided guy who invents the technology of the future for Cyberdine Industries when I see this guy in action.

He has been ALLOWED to succeed -he is the corporate all encompassing face of Meeja and socialistic MUSH

Why would anyone want to go and listen to vacuous gibberish like "to give our children back their future." Maybe 16 year old Art students.

Why no Obama rally in Italy?

Theyre the same population as us and france, and IIRC actually participated in Iraq or Afganistan.

If i was an Italian i would be fuming now. Silvio should get talking to his sicilian friends.

The Germans are the most politically correct brainwashed nation in Europe. For many of them, it would have been seized on as a great chance to show their anti-racist bona fides by turning up to cheer a black man.

IIRC Germans (and Austrian derivatives) are the single largest ethnic group in the US followed by Irish, English.....I only discovered this fact recently and was quite surprised by it.

Eisenhower, Schwartzkopf, Rumsfeld--recnet "names" reads like a who's who of Germaness nicht wahr?

Guess who would win the presidency, if they were able to run, by the largest landslide in American history? You guessed it--Schwarzenegger.
