nice to see Gordon spending the countries borrowed billions around the world:

Gordon Brown announced an extra $60 million for the Palestinian National Authority today urging both it and the Israeli Government to seize the chance for peace.

Speaking at a press conference with President Mahmoud Abbas, Mr Brown said the cash would help “underpin” a Palestinian state should the current round of talks conclude successfully.

Half of the additional funding – which will take the UK’s contribution to the PNA $175 million this year – will be spent keeping the administration afloat. The remainder is targeted at projects both to improve the territories’ security and economy. In particular Mr Brown said he wanted to support efforts to enable Palestinians to get cheap mortgages – something it is hoped might kick-start a moribund housing market in the occupied territories.

Why are we still paying for the groundwork for a two-state solution that was supposed to happen in 1948 after the predominantly european people were given someone else's land?

Well with so many people squashed into such a small place there isn't a lot else to do but make babies. (Maybe a picnic in the no-go zone)

With a self-declared theocratic freeholder like Israel happily blowing people out of wheelchairs and bombing power stations, I think these "lucky" Palestinians would have trouble getting home insurance that actually payed out.

It's a question worthy of debate, how a country faced with the economic problems we have can afford such contributions in economic aid. If you have spare money, donations to charity are very worthy but if you are giving money you borrowed in the first place, then is that prudent?

I believe the UK is the worlds second largest contributor in respect of direct Government aid, if true how sustainable is this?

Also, on the question of economic aid are we also destined to fund the European Union for ever more ?

Interesting quote that - I have read a number of things previously that refer to the plans to make Israel a Jewish state around the time of WWI.

By any standards, even Muslim states', Israel's behaviour towards the Palestinians is particularly wicked and savage. That's what happens in theocracies though.

Doncha love the way that HOLOCAUST is shouted by the Isreal-lovers when someone dares call their actions for what they are?
