Mr. Gruff

Utter Stupidity

Recommended Posts

The computers at work went down a few weeks ago, due to a virus. 3 months worth of data has been lost. It wasn't being backed up - an automatic backup was actually turned off to prevent filling up the server. It is costing a small fortune to put right.

Today, the same thing happened, wiping out a week or so worth of data.

The totally stupid thing about it is that the computers are so vulnerable, there is no anti-virus software (!), the only profile avaiable is the administrator, the profile that I set up whereby software couldn't be installed was actually deleted.

How much does a bloody hard disk cost for backups? And how much is anti-virus software for 10 computers? 500 quid at most? Putting it right is going to be a five figure job, and to make the same mistake twice is irresponsible.

If your company is serious about data protection, get some decent backup software.

NetBackup is pretty good stuff.
