Barclays Stops Loans At First Plus

Recommended Posts

Carol Vorderman's nice little earner has gone up the swanny...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/7495511.stm

"Banking giant Barclays is cutting 300 jobs at its home loans division in Cardiff, it has announced.

Firstplus, which employs around 430 at its base in the Pentwyn area of the city, said it was no longer taking on new customers due to slowing demand."

Strange that they should cite lack of demand at a time when personal borrowing is going up. I suspect lack of profit due to defaults and the closing down of debt securitisation markets is nearer the truth.

Ps Triumph Thunderbird. Nice Bike. Mines a red one. Good to see Ogri as an avatar as well.

These loans were rarely a good buy. Secured loans had lots of nasties built into them - up front insurance charges which were extortionate and not reduced if the loan was paid off early. The rates were often not much different from unsecured loans. The Vorderperson must have know that she was advertising a product that was inappropriate for the majority of applicants. Its hard to have much respect for her as a result.

Freeholder, Thank you!

Now, if only Ogri could form a political party...

What would an Ogri government be like?

Shall we do a bit of governing today? Nah lets go down the pub.

What about today? Nah looks like a good day to go down the coast.

If I have to do some governing lets repeal all the laws that are a pain in the ****. Thats enough for one year lets have a beer.

Another beer. Dont mind if I do.

they specialise in securing these loans on equity on houses (owner occupiers)...

well the equity if it hasn't gone already, its diminishing very fast, so this business is not viable any longer, this business model is now redundant!

It just doesn't work, may as well be secured on the 20year old bicycle in the garage.

Carol Vorderman has played a significant role in encouraging people to borrow beyond their means. And since she gave support to the anti-MMR campaign a few years back, I think she should be blamed for measles becoming endemic in this country one again. Vorderman deserves a place in the Krustie "Hall of Shame".
