But I thought it would be worth £80,000 when I came to remortgage...

Daily Wail

I can't see their problem, next they will be telling us that house prices are falling off a cliff!

Actually, I've thought of a way they can make money out of this. A new extreme sport, "extreme renting"...?

That's stoopid. It should be possible to calculate how long it will be until it falls into the sea and until that time it could be let to a tenant, hence it has some value; eg if it can be let for 5 years at £500pcm then it will yield £30,000. Basically it should be valued like a short lease property.

Just goes to exemplify what I have been saying for a long time, valuations are a load of cr*p (and I say this from experience having worked in the 'industry' for 37 years). What this £1 represents is one person's opinion - if you got half a dozen valuers all valuing this property 'blind' (ie with no clues as to sale/asking price etc) I'll wager you can get up to 80,000% difference! A valuer can't give a value. All he can do is give an opinion of value.

Don't they know it's all about Location, Location, Location.

Something that'll be in the sea in a couple of years is worth very little.

Oh, hang on.

What are they complaining about? They've basically paid 20 grand to live in a house for 20 years. Anyone else want a rental at that price - 80 quid a month ?

Cheap as chips (get the fish to go with them from the sea just over the cliff !).

20 years ago 500 yards.

Now 65 yards.

500-65 = 435 / 20 = 21.75 yards a year.

65 / 21.75 = 2.99 years (2dp).

Or more exact:

2 years, 360 days, 19 hours, 18 mins and 37 seconds.

Enjoy it while it lasts.

Interesting question. The Queen ultimately owns all land up to Low Water Mark (we are all just her 'tenants'). The Crowns land holdings must, therefore, be diminishing on a daily basis - shame!
