Owners Of Canary Wharf Halt Construction

Recommended Posts

Think we'll see a lot of this over the coming months, Shoreham airport expansion cancelled today, Canary Wharf not building any new speculative buildings. Personally, being a skyscraper fan, I would have prefferred for the credit crunch to have waited another year or two so these projects could have been completed.

As long as we don't get one of these:

:o

What were they doing at Shoreham? New wooden shack?

What was that about the foolish man building his house on sand.... Dubai makes me laugh sometimes. (I assume that is Dubai)

Thanks for that. Having gone bust last time so it looks like they have learnt their lesson.

When reading this article I saw a link to another article on thisismoney about BTL. It' pretty good IMO, do you know if it has already been posted here?

http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/mortgages/buy...p;in_page_id=56

In fact, for the first time, the number of UK mortgages on buy-to-let properties has just risen above the onem mark. Ten years ago, there were only 29,000.

 how many will end up has repos?

That's in North Korea and nobody speaks of it.

The pic gave me a giggle. When Prince Harry's girlfriend was a postgrad here, the politics department became known as the Ruygyong Hotel, because it was the only building on campus which had security guards and where you were required to show a student or staff ID card in order to get in. We weren't sorry to see the back of her.

I wonder what archaeologists who unearth this from the sand in 2,000 years will make of it :P

You have heard of piles I take it ;):)

Do you get piles if you sit on cold sand, or is that just an urban myth!? :P

I also like skyscrapers. One of my childhood memories was visiting my Dad's Aunt Lizzy. She stayed on the top floor of a 20 storey concrete tower block overlooking Bellahouston Park in Glasgow. I used to think she was so lucky staying there, when my parents just had an "ordinary" house. The buildings were not rigid - they were designed to sway in the wind. Lizzy used to say having a bath there felt as if you were on a boat, as the water sloshed around as the building moved! You just have to hope the architects/structural engineers get their calculations right when working out the resonant frequency of the movement, so there is no chance of them coming down in the wind!

Yes, I just think what Dubai are doing is pointless. People are falling for it though. I mean who's actually going to live in all the investment flats they're building. Its a desert FFS.
