Stand-out One-liners On B B C R4

Recommended Posts

I know the old thing about 'it's a shame all the people who really know how to run the country are too busy driving taxi-cabs', but sometimes when I hear what people in the media have to say...

I was listening to R4 while in the shower, and two little phrases stood out for me.

The first was by R4's own correspondent (I think) on the subject of the Fed's interest rate decision today, and went along the lines of:

Many are expecting as much as a 1% drop to restore confidence in the US economy. :o

The other was a segment they had about the plan to build some especially large prisons in the UK ('Titan Prisons'). A chap, who I believe was a high-up in a company that was expected to design and possibly run the prisons, said something along the lines of:

I've never actually visited any of the very large prisons around the world, but I can't think of any reason why they wouldn't work out fine.

There's nothing like doing your research and being sure of your facts, eh?

My favourite one was at around 0720 this morning (18/03/08).

Lowering the rate for lending to banks is what caused these problems
