News from friends over there. Not enough to require a formal announcement but 'a lot' apparently.

Well I hope not, the lovely house we are renting "belongs" to a GS person out in NY.

I really hope his job is safe as we want to sign up for another year at least come October. :)

A little late perhaps but news from a friend at GS in the UK points to the fact that there was a similar cull in the London office at the start of Feb

That one made the press - explained as being part of their 'get rid of the bottom 5% every year' myth I think. This seems to be an extra, and unexpected, round.

Once layoffs start becoming commonplace we'll see many organisations taking the chance to shed staff, even though not strictly necessary, purely because they can get away with it and justify it as a result of the bad economic conditions. Then they can push the remaining workforce for 'productivity improvements' and suppress pay claims.

The pain hasn't even started yet .... :ph34r:
