We Saved A Few Banks From Going Bust, Says Fund Boss

THE involvement of sovereign wealth funds (SWF) in the global economy "has prevented one, two, possibly three Barings-style collapses, the boss of one such fund said yesterday, although he did not name the banks.

Gulf Capital chief executive Karim El Solh said in an interview on Bloomberg Television, "In the mid-1990s, the collapse of Barings happened because there were no sovereign wealth funds" willing and ready to bail the bank out.
