Key Home Price Index Shows Record Declines in 2007, Double-Digit Drops in 8 Metro Areas
NEW YORK (AP) -- U.S. home prices dropped 8.9 percent in the final quarter of 2007 compared with a year ago, Standard & Poor's said Tuesday, the steepest decline in the 20-year history of its housing index.

The US began ever so slowly too--just like ours with 1% here .5% there, then, all of a sudden, new builds wouldn't sell, credit ran out, BTL died, panic ensued and Bob's yer uncle.

Anyway.... I remember at the end of 06 & start of 07 US media and the like saying that prices would level off with no material falls .... we are about 8-12 months behind them in the cycle
