We bought some flats in Germany right on the Polish border and very recently that border was opened fully to allow unfettered migration. Overnight, tenant demand has gone up as a result, indeed so much so, that there are no 2 room appartments left available in the area!

There is not a higher percentage of good workers. They are just higher motivated than Brits for the remarkably simple reason that they are earning four times what they are used to. I can guarantee you that if Brits could go and work in another country for four times what they earn here then business in that country would be busy slagging off the natives of that country whilst saying how wonderful Brits were No doubt this country would have it's fair share of thick people, just like the UK, who wouldn't understand what was really happening and would join in slagging off their fellow countrymen

Agreed, although I wonder how much of that extra money is actually eaten up. Many of these Poles are claiming Working Tax Credits and Child Benefit as well. Of course they also tend to live cheaply because they know it's temporary. I suspect that for many they still manage to take home a substantial amount of money (for Poland). Same reason so many Aussies and Kiwis come to work over here, although crucially they don't depress the wages for everybody else.

Us Brits with our permanently high base costs and our quaint expectations of not having to work like slaves for peanuts are being taking for a serious ride at the moment. I don't blame the Poles, I blame the @rseholes who engineered and allowed the current situation. I also blame the thick British people who do not understand they are being taken for a ride, you know they type - the ones who start ranting on about chavs, the welfare system and how cr@p all Brits are whenever immigration is mentioned.

As with all these kinds of stories, there are varying degrees of accuracy.

Most immigrants, (not just Poles, come on everyone, they are not the only ones) I have encountered are very hard working and good tenants. I have had good Brit tenants too.

One bunch of Poles (four in a flat) were dreadful, had a fire causing thousands of £'s of damage and were late with the rent most months. I have had drugs raids, money laundering and unpaid rents from Brits.

I agree with previous posts, IF recession bites and the construction industry and tourist sector are hit bad, then many hard workers will probably leave, they are after all, only chasing the money. Germany has always been a favourite.

Many will stay and have made very comfortable, legitimate and productive lives here.

Many will stay due to their ability to play the benefit game.

You really need to improve your screening techniques as it clearly does not work. If you use an agent sack them or better still sue them. If you carry out interviews yourself think about how you can extract information accurately.

When I had let out properties in the past I took this seriously as I do when interviewing perspective employee's.

You should take up all references and if something does'nt seem quite right do not let to them.
