Mike1045
I wonder how many lurkers there are out there, Stand up and be counted! Then you can go back to your lurking ways. Seriously though I’m interested to know what the interest is in this site over and above the regular posters. Don’t care if you’re a bull or a bear just if you’re a lurker

WhatTheFTB
Hello HPC. I'm de-lurking, after (I'm ashamed to say) four years!!! I first logged on to find kindred spirits, and was so relieved to find out that Hubby and I weren't the only ones unable/unwilling to buy a home. Until about two months ago, we were treated like financial numpties by everyone else! We're currently stuck in a 1 bedroom flat, which we rent from (thankfully) a very nice landlord, but it's hard not having our own place. So many times, we've been tempted to buy, but a little voice in our heads said it was not the right time. I guess the main reason I've finally shown my face on here, is that I feel, now more than ever, that the tide has turned at last. I just want to say a big thank you to everyone on HPC (Bull or Bear). Your posts and intelligent debates over the past few years have kept us sane, and - boy - have I learned a lot about economics! Anyway, I'll stop kissing @ss now. Keep up the good work, and I'll see you on the rest of the forum. WhatTheFTB PS - I know my username is really unoriginal. If I've trodden on anyone's toes, or it's a bit close to anyone elses, just give me a kick and I'll change it.

johnycoldears
Yep, been lurking for most of this year. I've picked up some sound economic info on this site, which I've freely been distributing to friends and family. For the first six months I was looked at blankly if I tried such conversations as " BTL is the UK's sub prime " or " the forthcoming credit crunch is really going to affect house prices in this country" All of a sudden - last couple of months - I am seen as some sort of mystic Meg, and people are asking my opinion on whether to buy or rent. Do you think I should let on that this wisdom is not all my own ?
tazbert
was a momentary lurker in 2004 (can you lurk momentarily?) when i split with my wife. found the site again a month or two ago. decided to register after being double dared here! not that i have anything meaningful to say

Pent Vaer
but it's hard not having our own place. So many times, we've been tempted to buy, but a little voice in our heads said it was not the right time. Well done, it's hard to keep your head when all around you are losing theirs (we also have experience of what the gravitational pull feels like). Being female, I'm afraid I can't call you a man my son, however. Pent
Borisina
I have been lurking here since 2004. I do not at present live in the uk as am living and working overseas and have been for almost eight years. I love Britain but WILL NOT pay such a ridiculous sum of money for an ordinary house, or put a great noose around my neck by borrowing so much from the bank in order to do so. I love this forum and am a total addict, and never learnt so much in all of my life. Long Live House Price Crash. Keep the Faith
notplaying
I registered after 8 months of lurking in October I think it was. Anyhow very glad I found this site, as being someone who believes that house prices must go down does tend to come with its own social stigma (or should i say did). I was Glad to find people who thought the same (cgnao aside) to prove that I was not going mad....... Well actually that does not prove anything at all, but I do like the site. Mike1045
Big virtual round of applause for all you lurkers who have come forward They say admitting you’re a lurker is the first step. Just take it one post at a time. The rest of you lurkers come forward, HPC is like a big ship, by coming forward you will feel safe and warm when the crash comes. Mind you its already here so your feet are already wet. HURRY THERES NOT MUCH TIME!

Priced_Out_GenXer
I suppose I'm a bit of lurker, I post here and there but very infrequently which is probably why someone has nicked my username by using a slight variation  I'm a hard-up graduate, 32, currently renting a shared flat London because it's all I can afford. While my salary isn't bad what with student debts, council tax and the inflated cost of living in the UK I have no way of paying the ridiculous house prices in London. And now that I am well versed in the dynamics of asset bubbles and have a basic grasp of macroeconomics (thanks to the knowledgeable people on here) I wouldn't buy even if I had the means. Rather ironically, my parents are the archetypal baby boomer amateur BTL's, they have four properties including their own and a half share in another. It was me who advised them to invest in property with my dad's retirement lump sum back in 2001 (when property was a good investment) and they have made an enormous amount of money (on paper). For about three years now I have been advising them to cash in their chips. All I have received is ridicule especially from my extended family. However, my dad has FINALLY 'seen the light' but my mum who has no understanding of economics (bless her) and is swayed by the endless property porn tv shows just cannot see the price crash we can all see looming on the horizon. geevna
Lurking pretty much every day for about 2 years. Used to own a home with an ex. Sold up when split up. P*ssed it all up the wall until now I don't have a pot to p*ss in anymore. Couldn't afford to buy one even if they were sensible prices at the moment but could turn that round relatively quickly if the time comes that homes are worth buying again. Mass Manipulation
Lurking most days since 2004: I'm utterly addicted though I never post, not least because of my tempestuous choice of screen name! While I'm out of the closet, so to speak, thank you all for your educational and often humorous posts, and for giving my partner and I much needed support in answering our plethora of friends and colleagues who incessantly question our sanity for refusing to buy in the present economic climate. We STR in 2003 convinced a correction was coming and it's been a long haul made considerably more bearable by this site. My daily mantra when perusing the morning news tends to be either “how much longer can the madness last?” or, in a tone reminiscent of Victor Meldrew, “I don’t believe it!” Right, back off to the shadow lands again for me...
