Countrywide - Referencing Fees

Recommended Posts

Just moving to a new tenancy - Very nice flat, much larger than current flat and twice as much rooms and space.

New letting agents are doing a reference through homelet (been done before) and when current agents (Countrywide) were asked for a reference they advised homelet that they'd charge me £25 + VAT for a reference.

I think they are getting desperate.

Well, I phoned them and told them to stick it sideways.

No way I'm paying them £25 + VAT.

Also, homelet advise that they will also accept bank statements showing payments of rent for the last 6 months. So I gave them that. Cost: Free.

So don't go giving these letting agents a penny of your money that you don't have to.

Oh, and avoid Countrywide like the plague IMHO. They've been a pain in the ****, and at times quite rude and unhelpful from start to finish.

I have to agree here - I've never heard a good word said about them.

They charge a fortune on the way into a property, too.
