Quality Question In "yahoo Answers"

Recommended Posts

I've put in my answer:

Well Emily that's a bit like asking if your best friend buys your wedding dress will you own part of her ballgown?

No. You'll end up naked.

Good one Neil.

A gold star for avoiding the temptation, for it is a great one, to be more... "frank".

Here is it in all it's glory:

"If Virgin buy Northern Rock would the NRK shareholders become Virgin shareholders or would they be sold?"

Heh heh. You can almost smell the naivety.

I don't get what's stupid about the question and I don't understand your answer.

(Other than the detail that the NRK listing will likely survive so they need do nothing.)

Er, yes, if she buys the wedding dress with part of her ballgown. Which is what Virgin are proposing.

Wouldn't most shareholders if not all have to take what ever Virgin offers per share? and not have the option to carry on holding the shares. Or are Virgin only buying a part of NR?

I got the impression that they would reverse Virgin Money's assets into NRK and get NRK to issue >51% paper to the VM consortium shareholders, and in return NRK becomes viable so the massive dilution is short term pain for long term gain. But I could be talking shit like everyone else.

Branson wants to turn all the NRK branches into Virgin Money branches - that's what his grinning chevy was saying on the telly the other night anyway. Although based on his responses to the interviewer's questions it doesn't sound like he really knows what they're going to do with it at all.

So I expect what 'since the beginning' says is what would actually happen. It's all just idle prognosis though and NRK shares are still totally bargepole as far as I'm concerned.
