Bloo Loo
shes talking about hips at the moment Live in parliament, but when asked how much would house prices have to fall to become affordable she answered with an amazing statistic. Apparantly, house prices have risen much faster then wages in the LAST 30 YEARS. No boom No bust Its a miracle

No boom No bust Its a miracle Ha Ha she cannot answer the question. she knows the answer but she cannot say it in public. Not yet. Go on Yvette, you can do it. Yvette Cooper outside the Arndale Centre 2011: "Of course it was unsustainable. House prices had to come down. We could all see it" Policeman: "Move along now." Guest The_Oldie
Hardly the most contentious assertion, I would have thought. Other than the fact that it's wrong . High prices have been caused by lax lending.
Bloo Loo
Paul Holmes has come up with a number of schemes to make housing affordable- pay for bricks and mortar only, shared equity. What really annoys me is that they talk like prices a re fixed - like by a man with a price gun going round- They are all hopeless
bobthe~
Other than the fact that it's wrong . High prices have been caused by lax lending. No No No. Because then as lending tightens that would suggest that prices would come down. It's Supply, Supply, Supply. What sort of a site is this ffs? smiffy1967
Hardly the most contentious assertion, I would have thought. In wrote to her two weeks ago. I explained that me the wife and me two young baby kids could neither afford to buy and have been told by 3 local councils of whoms list we have presided on for the last 2 years, basically told us we havent a hope in hell of being housed, in fact the only way we could possibly get housed was if we became homeless and then we would have to live in a shelter for up to another two years before we stood a chance of being housed. I also advised yvette that we have had to move so many times due to short tenacy agreements that it was having a serious effect on my two daughters education and i advised that i am sure this is a breach of their human rights? Havent recived a reply yet, perhaps due to the post office strike?

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
If the supply angle is correct, we must be going through one hell of an adjustment at the moment - with HIPs cutting supply right down, house prices are still falling across vast swathes of the country. Cheers, G

smiffy1967
I also forgot to mention that i also advised Yvette cooper that my mum works for a housing association and has recently housed a couple from Kosovo whom have been in the country six months, and us Brits can't get housed. And again i reiterate that it was effecting my kids education moving around all the time and this government that pretends to take care of hard working families has shit all over mine. Yvette and Gordon and alistair should be strung from lamposts.
Smell the Fear
I really want to buy, i have 10K saved for a deposit, but i cant afford to buy with such rampant HPI Can you tell us: - what area of the country you live in? - How much is your income per year before tax? - How much is your household income per year before tax? - How many children you have? I simply can't believe that you can't afford a home. If you provide these details I may be able to help you find somewhere suitable.

Unless i do a lie to buy i will not get the salary multiples to be able to afford something decent in a decent area. Besides that, i really feel a reccesion around the corner and would not like to get screwed in a nagative equity situation and no job = Repo man calling = credit screwed = no chance of ever getting a house. Seems a little evasive if you don't mind me saying. A quick scan of previous posts reveals that you: - have gold bullion investments - sold a property in the med and made a tidy profit - have a "good job" Sounds to me like you want to have your cake and eat it! A quick scan of previous posts reveals that you: - have gold bullion investments - sold a property in the med and made a tidy profit - have a "good job" Sounds to me like you want to have your cake and eat it! well researched may i say. Yes you are right, we did sell a property in the med, came home to the UK, had no credit rating, no furniture no car and spend a tidy sum getting a household togeather, put the remainder in bullion built a credit history and then realized after seeing a IFA that we could not get the income multiples to get a morgage on anything but a show box on a sink estate, in the meantime we are housing foreigners whom have been in the country for less than 6 months to a year or two. BTW i married a Maltese women and they are very mother centric so we ended up living their, so i am not one of those people whom go out to Spain and live in my own little english aint we lucky to live out here brigade. So according to your logic, i should easily qaulify for a morgage by getting 6,7,8,9 times my salary multiples and should peritrate HPI buy buying in a bubble only to see the whole house of cards come falling down and lose everything when i'm repod? Whats wrong with wanting decent affordable social housing anyway, should this country not allow for both decent plentyful social housing as well as for the people whom have a hard on for owning a property like it is some sort of medal one should hang round there head to prove they are wealthy? Besides, Wealth and social status are just one big illusion, in another ten years from now with total and utter economic and social devastation from the converging catashrophies of the 21st century (PEAK OIL/GAS and CLIMATE CHANGE) there will be no such thing as wealth only misery. MongerOfDoom
There are plenty of existing properties for people to live in. I think rents are a reasonable indicator of how much housing is worth. In the SE it seems impossible to rent a 2-bed flat if you are single, without dependants, and on the minimum wage. Even single professionals now resort to sharing. I would suggest this indicates a serious shortage and a very good case could be made for building more housing even if that means using green belt land. I am sure others will disagree, however I think the benefit provided by the green belt is very much smaller than the decrease in the quality of life that everyone needs to suffer as a result. I am convinced the only reason we don't build there is that it would not suit those who borrowed in the anticipation of house prices remaining high due to limited supply. The only shortage is of properties for "investors" to buy, many of which are empty. It's a classic bubble, fueled by debt. I don't disagree with that but it is basically orthogonal to the supply argument. It is simply that the prices incorrectly reflect the fundamentals, but they would be too high to justify the current planning laws even if they did. This is clearly a matter of opinion, but we can start by trying to agree what sort of accommodation someone on the minimum wage should be able to afford to rent. If they currently cannot then surely more housing is needed.
