Are There Any Women On Housepricecrash?

Recommended Posts

For some reason I get the impression that it's all blokes posting on this site. But I realise that actually I can't tell for sure, so it must be my sexism kicking in.

So all you girls out there - say hello! (if you want).

Hi, I'm here as well.

It's a great site and I'm learning a great deal. Work in IT so used to an all male environment anyway!

I'm female.

I find it difficult to tell who's male and female as well. I think the argumentative nature of this forum makes it seem like everyone is male.

I think it is mostly male here but I don't really understand why.

But given that most of my female friends (late 20's early thirties) seem to think that Kirstie and her mate are some kind of heroes and love all the property porn shows - maybe it could be that females are more swayed by the media crap and hence are hardly likely to be joining us. Though most of them are worried about being able to afford their own places one day none of them really see the connection between all the ramping they watch and prices going up.

It was not too long ago that one of my friends was asking me what the interest rate going up meant (she does not have a mortgage) but she didnt understand why it was so important - she is well educated with an MSc and everything.... I used to think I was thick about these things but compared to some of them I am Einstein

Btw - I am female

Yeah, most women tend to use "gender neutral" usernames and not make it clear they're women - obviously female users seem to get more hassle for their opinions. I remember reading a survey at one point that showed that the more obviously female a username on a forum was, the more harassment / argument it attracted from other users. Either there are a lot of frustrated misogynist men out there who hide out on the web or it's like work and opinions get less credit coming from a female source. Either way, it's no surprise most female forum users aren't keen to draw attention to their real identity...hmm there's a media studies dissertation in there somewhere... <_<

Aunt Jess, BossyBabe - any thoughts?

I learned that lesson the hard way - it is really strange how the reaction changes when posters on some forums realise that you're female. One minute your comments are taken seriously, and the next you're an airhead who doesn't have a clue. Quite sad really. Some women on some forums play up to all that though which makes me even madder.

I do sometimes get thoughts, but it depends on the hormones! ;)

Seriously, I do get argument, but sometimes I set out to invite argument. There's nothing like a good argument, I say. In fact, it should be my motto.

I did find at first that my posts weren't taken seriously, in fact one topic I started early on was completely ignored, though it was topical and related to HPC. A female on HPC could get a complex if her ego isn't man-sized.

Talking about mottoes - how about this for HPC?

"The budget should be balanced, the treasury refilled, public debt reduced, the arrogance of officialdom tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands curtailed, lest Rome become bankrupt. "

There's been quite a bit of this "How old are you?", "What sex are you?" etc recently on the site.

Let's cut to the chase - who's on the pull? :P

Only if you're filthy rich and don't stand to lose on the Crash. :P
