Broker snap: Goldman slashes Northern Rock target

LONDON (ShareCast) - Northern Rock (LSE: NRK.L - news) came in fir further attention today as Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS

- news) cut the beleaguered mortgage lender to 'sell' from 'neutral' with price target slashed to 296p from 1,100p.

The broker reckons the share will continue to fall before stabilizing, although in early deals Tuesday they were up 10% following two days of hefty losses.

The new target represents the most any buyer would pay for the company without generating goodwill, said Goldman.
