Lord Lister
???? That caught my attention as well, I assume it is a sympathetic sell off, but maybe someone somewhere knows something???
Gel
Indeed, most other banks are off by sub 5% but A&L is getting a severe kicking for no obvious or apparent reason. Sympathetic = 5% = %
Levy process
That caught my attention as well, I assume it is a sympathetic sell off, but maybe someone somewhere knows something??? Or maybe people know that other people are stampeding like dumb animals, and want to be ahead of the stampede? Why do you think it MEANS anything? This site is OBSESSED with the notion that "somebody knows something", "rumours I'm hearing" etc. I bet most posters on here who post "according to rumours I'm hearing" have just read some pap article in one of the online newspapers and recycled it on here, dressing it up like they've got some sort of "inner circle" city knowledge or something. Rover
Isn't it because A+L and B+B are in a similar 'basket' as NR. That being, they are heavily geared in the mortgage market, albeit not on the same scale. Roost, home, coming to, chickens EDIT:Bit touchy for a neither arent we Levy? Fudge
I transfered money out of A&L recently, I dont think it is in trouble but as a precaution, you can't be too careful nowadays. I moved the money to Bradford & Bingley Just kidding.

Thats ok because half the people here long ago converted their money into gold bullion which theyve placed in a kryptonite lined lead box in a blast bunker under their garden shed. In the unlikely event that every single bank hasnt gone bust by 2009 , rendering printed currency worthless, some members also have a Post Office account book hidden in their survival back packs. Rover
May I suggest you withdraw your B+B money and invest in Paragon. You may also like to remove your head from the frying pan and insert it in the fire

Can I suggest landlord.co.uk as an alternative pastime for you, you are clearly so at odds with this site.

A&L and B&B operate under the same business model, though less extreme, as Northern Crock. As that model has been shown to be deeply flawed in current market conditions you would expect their share price to be re-risked
Walton Goggins
Jasmine Birtles has just stated on BBC News 24 that both A & L and B & B are apparently doing very well with taking money withdrawn from NR. So perhaps not everybody has read the papers.

I doubt it is based on data such as how much is getting withdrawn. Surely as we all know that Northern Rock is the only one that is effected by a problem caused entirely by the US and not one sub-prime mortgage has been sold in the UK (Thanks for the info Darling) then more money will be pouring into the other banks etc because the crowd will only know about NR and not compute that the problem is far deeper. The city however does know that this problem is very deep indeed and the UK is sitting on a subprime timebomb.

Well all I can say is 15% down on huge volume suggests institutional selling, and they are the sort of someone's who make a difference. You don't need to read UFO weekly to be able to read between the lines and come to a conclusion that may to some appear obsessive, sometimes the facts and figures speak for themselves. You do what you like, trust what the banks and the government tell you if that is your way, I am not trying to tell you or anyone else what to do, personally I will follow my own council and take responsibility for my sucesses and failures. however if I see something that concerns me I will share it with likeminded people who may be interested. Tonester
No queues outside A&L/B&B in Cambridge this lunch - but an ever increasing one outside Northern Rock. Personally none of what's going on really affects me that much. The only way it might is through rising unemployment, but there's only two rates of unemployment that matter: 100% and 0%, and they are set by whether one has a job or not. Macroeconomics are interesting for strategic planners, but are merely a shift in probabilities for the man in the street.
