I'm not sure this is going to carry huge weight for the meeja in the face of NR, F&M, Maddy and Colin Mcrae's apparent death.

People would have to actually be dieing before they gave it much air time.

Perhaps the NR run will continue into the winter and we'll see OAPs dying of flu in the queues...

Just another reason to stock up on food supplies.

The media played the H5N1 to death about 9 months ago and the thing that must had stopped it was all the ducks drown during the storms or they were simply lieing.

Nope it kills people by causing a massive auto immune response, or cytokine storm. Thus bizarrely those dying will be the young and fit, those with healthy and strong immune systems.

The FCO are still advising on the risk of avian flu in China. This warning has been in place for 2 years. I wonder if it will be in place in another year?

China

This advice has been reviewed and reissued with amendments to the Crime and Natural disasters section. The overall level of the advice has not changed.

SUMMARY

* Outbreaks of Avian Influenza (Bird Flu) in China have resulted in a small number of human fatalities. As a precaution, you should avoid live animal markets, poultry farms and other places where you might come into contact with domestic, caged or wild birds; and ensure poultry and egg dishes are thoroughly cooked. For further information see the Health section below and also read the FCO’s Avian and Pandemic Influenza Factsheet.
