Realistbear
http://www.thisishampshire.net/news/dailye...ts_go_ahead.php Pay rise for councillors gets go ahead By Clare Kennedy Cllr Alec Samuels A CROSS party committee has agreed that Southampton councillors should be awarded inflation-busting pay rises. Members of Southampton City Council's Standards and Governance Panel agreed that councillors worked hard and deserved more money. As reported by the Daily Echo, an independent panel has recommended rises of up to a massive 325 per cent for the council leader, Cabinet members and others with special responsibilities. The leaders probably fared better than the average street sweeper? TUC must be woindering why they are going for 6% when 325% is on the table for the local boys. Guest Bart of Darkness
A CROSS party committee has agreed that Southampton councillors should be awarded inflation-busting pay rises.Members of Southampton City Council's Standards and Governance Panel agreed that councillors worked hard and deserved more money. But they had not gone twenty yards when they stopped short. An uproar of voices was coming from the farmhouse. They rushed back and looked through the window again. Yes, a violent quarrel was in progress. There were shoutings, bangings on the table, sharp suspicious glances, furious denials. The source of the trouble appeared to be that Napoleon and Mr. Pilkington had each played an ace of spades simultaneously.Twelve voices were shouting in anger, and they were all alike. No question, now, what had happened to the faces of the pigs. The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which. Ethel
Bravo. I, the taxpayer, have infinitely deep pockets, and these competent and professional individuals deserve the most generous remuneration for their efficient and productive efforts, and such selfless servitude towards the hardworking, law-abiding citizens of this country. I thought you were joking but having read your Thatcher inspired sig I am having second thoughts lol! Actually I cant imagine Thatcher would be impressed. The prob with government run bodies is that they can be as crap as they like, there is no competition, nothing to judge against. They can take all the cash and still be rubbish. Of course you can theoretically vote them out. But in reality, they can do this stuff and get away with it. Im in the wrong job!
Ethel
Actually I cant imagine Thatcher would be impressed. Er - no I'm sure she wouldn't. They are entitled to take their cut from A) Increased revenue from Parking fines B)creating employment by hiring more traffic wardens and C) making effective use of migrant population as cited in point B. Methinkshe
take them out and suspend them by their necks as an example to other parasitic councillors around the country. [/quote Nah! Just index-link their pensions for the next ten years - to property prices. Same for MP's.
It is different this time
As reported by the Daily Echo, an independent panel has recommended rises of up to a massive 325 per cent for the council leader, Cabinet members and others with special responsibilities 2% for council employees 325% for the leader, no wonder Brown can't afford to offer more than 2% pay rise! Realistbear
There is some logic to the seeming madness as the inflation busting (understatement?) pay rises they have awarded themselves will be covered adequately so that the council's budget will not go into the red. They will simply raise council taxes to pay for it all. Problem solved.
