US national debt has gone over $9trillion!

Brillig US Debt Clock

They were out of credit at $8.965 trillion. No doubt they'll vote themselves a rise in their limit. But are there any implications to this?

Will it be that simple with their growth figures heading lower?

Will this figure in any election debates or don't the US public care ?

The Quarterly External Debt Database,
jointly developed by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund,
brings together detailed external debt data that are published individually by countries that subscribe to the IMF’s Special Data Dissemination Standard (SDDS). The benefit of bringing together comparable external debt data for a large number of SDDS-subscribing countries in one central location, is to facilitate macroeconomic analysis and cross-country data comparison. Sixty SDDS subscribing countries have agreed to participate in this database. Non-SDDS subscribing countries may be asked to participate in the centralized database at a later stage.

The UK recently passed over the $10,000,000,000,000 point. The US are still slightly shy of $11,900,000,000,000. Our bank debt is the highest in the world. We are, in effect, bankrupt and more so than any other nation on the planet.

Gordon, me old mate, what HAVE you done? :o
