Business confidence at weakest since 2005

Aug 28 2007
Recent turmoil in the financial markets has left business confidence at its weakest level since November 2005, a report found today.
The BDO Optimism Index, which measures confidence over the next six months, showed a sharp fall in August, accelerating the downward trend seen since last summer.
The drop is across the board, with both small and large businesses and the manufacturing and services sectors seeing falls in their indices.
And although the overall index remains above the 100 mark, which indicates expansion, further fall-out is expected next month as a result of tighter credit conditions, which followed on from the US sub-prime mortgage crisis.
Despite the fact that business confidence has dropped, from 101.9 to 101.2 in August, experts at BDO Stoy Hayward said the Bank of England will need to keep a close eye on inflation.

This kind of sentiment can do untold harm as sentiment has always been the key. When the sheeple no longer believe that Gordon gave them a miracle the mood will quickly shift. The newspapers will reflect the sentiment to sell the papers and its all over.

Perception is reality - once sentiment changes everyone's perception changes and it become a self fulfilling prophecy - the economic miracle has been the view of the glass is full brigade, once they realise its actually empty all hell will break loose.
