Thousands of crime suspects are to be housed in flats and houses in cities around England and Wales while awaiting trial, in an emergency measure to ease prison overcrowding.

Picture the scene. Mr & Ms "young professional" sipping coffee on their balcony one morning. The sun is shining, the birds are chriping. God is in his heaven.

Mr. YP: Looks like the new people are moving in to the flat next door at last.

Ms YP: Oh that's nice, it'll be good to have company at last, it's been empty for so long. What are they like?

Mr YP: I think they're poilcemen. Must be a gay couple. That'll be nice. Wait, no..... oh Jesus f**K!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bail To Let?

 Just the sort of thing to make a nervous investor "bail out".

The provision of accommodation in the community will require a third of the annual £23,000 cost of a prison place

So it'll cost erm, £147 a week? Still not actually cheap.

We should outsource prisons and this sort of stuff.

Morocco and Zimbabwe are actually the leading candidates for the first "ExpoCon" contract due to be signed soon. The Moroccans put in a bid of US$227 per prisoner per year but the Zimbabwians are under cutting that with a bid of Zim$1,500,000 per prisoner per day. Currently it all hangs on which country makes the best offer to Prescotts boy for his consultancy work. Nulabor hopes to start exporting convicts in 2008 to help make room for more immigration.

The fact that they won't be able to have visitors will probably scupper it.

It seems that somebody has spotted the true purpose of all these new build rabbit hutches:

Article Here

I keep seeing new-builds advertised as a "secure, gated community". Perhaps this is what they mean!
