I can't log in to the internet banking - says System Error.

Do you think they haven't paid the leccy bill or something? Should I tell Bloomberg? :P

I haven't been able to log into Abbey for two days now. Bloody glad its not a current account.....

Sign of the times... a run on bank wouldn't be long queues outside the branches, it will be the website collapsing under the weight of people shifting their money to somewhere they consider safer.

Hmm, wheel barrow isn't one of the drop-downs on my tranfer list!

I've got to give the HSBC cash point a work out later! HBOS online banking is working fine though.

I think you are right. I have certanly noticed that it has been taking about twice as long as normal to get permission to move more than £10k in and out of my online bank (not saying which) in the last two weeks. It may well be that larger numbers of people are moving savings out to cover losses, into safe havens, etc, so they are a bit overloaded. Logging on and doing normal banking on the internet has been OK so far.

I know that all of these banks have very little extra call centre capacity spare so if large numbers of people started phoning to move money they certainly would not be able to cope.

I don't think so, I reckon they will just deliberately shut the site, and then you will have people queuing on premium rate phone lines...

Temporarily of course.
