Central Deposit Scheme

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My landlord is trying to hold some of my deposit. I know about the new central deposit scheme that was brought in April. However i paid my deposit back last July( when my contract started). Does anyone know if the landlord should be keeeping that money in a central depsoit, or is it just for new deposits collected after April ths year?

Many thanks for any advice!

It only applies to new contracts signed on or after 6th April this year.

However, you might still want to seek advice (Shelter/CAB) as your landlord still needs to have reasonable grounds to withhold YOUR money. Go to the Small Claims Court of necessary, but whatever you do, make sure your rent is paid up to date, otherwise YOU have broken the contract too and wouldn't have a leg to stand on!

Polly
