That was a great bit of work with modern technology and engineering. And even better it has upset at least 40% of all doom mungers and hippies, maybe more.

Yes, but did they ever get there? I know sat nav is a bit misleading at times, but when they said they were at the North Pole (and to prove the fact they showed the sat nav readout) they were actually at N78 37' 7" W104 11' 9". Which to my understanding is not the North Pole N90 00' 00". F.C.U.K WITS

Could it be that they were actually at the magnetic north pole and not the geographical north pole.

The magnetic north pole lies hundreds of miles further south of the geographical north pole (90 degrees), the location is not fixed and is constantly moving, even on a daily basis, in 2005 the magnetic north pole was located at 82.7 degrees north by 114.4 degrees west and can move up to 25 miles each year.

I noticed that too. They appear to have raced to the magnetic north pole, so basically they stayed in Canadan territory for the filming - close to Ellesmere Island.

I may be wrong. I am often wrong.

We had heard through many grapevines that we would be accompanied by the Top Gear crew which of course included Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson and James May. In our training week in Austria , I had become friendly with Nigel ,the Director and Grant the camera man who were learning to cross country ski with the rest of us. We were encouraged to keep the Top Gear involvement low profile. The idea was that Jeremy and James would be racing in a 4 wheel drive Toyota to the Magnetic North Pole against Richard who would be Dog-Sledding there.
Look out for the Top Gear programs at end of July on , BBC2 – we are not on it but perhaps it’ll give an insight into the conditions we experienced.

On reading the above it is un-clear whether the top gear team did it on their own or went along with the 2007 Polar Challenge team to the magnetic north pole.

then i found this -

However this website gives the co-ordinates of the magnetic north pole the same as where the top gear team ended up - http://polarrace.com/about/route/
