Hawkshead Calls In Administrators

Recommended Posts

Jessops, FOPP, Kwik Save and now Hawshead and this at the time when the economy is supposed to be booming....

Underlying sales, which exclude new store openings, are understood to have slumped about 4 per cent in June against the same month last year, even worse than the 3 per cent fall in May. Another high street boss said: “Since we passed Easter the sales have slowed right down. There have been no really strong fashions, the weather has been poor and people have waited for the sales to stock up for their holiday. It’s a combination of weather, economics and fashion.”

.....once house prices stop rising there will be a lot of pain to come on the high street.

Hawkshead is a business which lost its way chasing fashion. It used to be a solid business selling classic lines and outdoor clothing, I stopped ordering from it about 2 years ago, it lost its way selling bizarre stuff to fashionistas.

I suspect a back-to-basics offering (cotton goods and woolens) at reasonable prices may well see it successfully emerge from administration. Re-financing, and a new set of buyers focussed on its core offering would do it the world of good

This is a good analysis. I stopped buying from Hawkshead for the same reason. They've been in some trouble for a few years now, actually I'm surprised it's taken this long for them to go into administration.
