Former Countries Of The United Kingdom

Recommended Posts

As we say goodbye to Tony Blair as he goes of to "Fix" the Middle East just as he has fixed the UK, Iraq and Afghanistan we usher in a new and much more frightening era.

In breif lets look at some of the changes he and his Nu-Labour Government have brought in :

He has delvolved powers to Scotland and Northern Island and given Wales regional assembly.

He has signed a treaty giving over 40 new areas of power to brussels and the EU and the details is still be chewed over as I write this.

He has signed a treaty with the US (my old patch), to allow any British Citizen to be extradicted without evidence to the US, but forgot to ask for the same the other direction to the UK.

He has given the US powers to convict in preference to UK laws, so if you robbed a bank in New York and a bank in London, you would be convicted first in the US then later in the UK, regarless of the timing of the offences. If you were imprisoned in the UK already you go to a US jail, serve you term and go back to the UK jail to finish the remainder of your sentence.

Cornwall has found a voice for seperatism in this confusing land and wants out.

Wales wants seperation from England, and then from the UK.

Scotland wants complete independence.

If Gordon Brown doesnt repair some of the damage and there is no indication he will. The UK will disintergrate. Your house value will crash and your local community will decent into the grip of Asylum Seekers, Chavs and Gated Communities.

What can you do about it, well nothing at all. You want a housepricecrash ? House prices will never be this high again, at least not for a long time.

A very interesting analysis, which I agree with mostly.

I did not really understand why Scotland and Wales were given these parliments. I came to the only real concludion possible, that these countries would at some point get home rule and seperate

At the time I was very concerned and thought there would be many problems but it seems to have worked better and smoother than I thought and at least Scotland are brave enough to take the next step of home rule and as "Great Britain" or "Britain" really has no real meaning in the new world it was not only the obvious progression but a neccessary one.

The situation as it stands at the moment is causing resentment and much bitterness all round but with these countries standing on their on feet they will not only get some pride for their countries back, that seemed lost, but respect and better inter relationships with the other countries of the former britain.

Political parties have been talking about "real power at a regional level" for a long time, but what they seem to stupid to understand is that with real power should come real responsibility.

I feel that seperate regimes in all 4 countries would actually strengthen this union and force each member to be responsible for their own actions as well as each member of this union having total control over their own destinies.

Westminster would talk to parliments in Scotland, Wales, and N.I. as equals and not as parents giving token responsibilities to their children.

Which is a good thing right?

Unless you are a royalist and hanker back to days of empire?

I can tell from your tone that you're not happy about these things that you accurately point out TB has presided over. I'm not happy about them either, with the possible exception of the EU, depending on what happens next. However I don't think any of them will cause a HPC.

NuLab have effectively managed to relinquish all responsibility for everything!

* Problems in Wales? blame the national assembly.

* Problems in Scotland? blame alex salmond.

* Problems with the boom/bust ecomomy? blame the "independent" MPC.

* Problems with the size of our cucumbers? blame the EU.

It seems, we now have more politicians "running" this country than sense.

I wonder what happened at "Blair" Castle in 1745?
