Add in some pringles and ping meals and you'll soon be the size of a house. You would be sitting on a bloody fortune.

I wanna start some new types of property porn TV programs:

1/Property renting porn

2/Property council flat porn

3/Property squatting porn.

At least they would be more relevant to more normal people,

And this is not including the cable channels: Travel TV, Discovery Real Time, Discovery Travel Living...etc. Real Time is showing many episodes of LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION from YEARS ago, along with out-of-date series of PROPERTY LADDER, GRAND DESIGNS, SELLING HOUSES, A PLACE BY THE SEA, A PLACE IN THE SUN and ROOM BY ROOM. Sadly, they're cheap to make and the public have demonstrated that they like them...more on the way.

You forgot to add in the highlight of the day the new inheritance chasers who'll take a % of your lost inheritance to return it to you... that'll keep the dream going of some people being able to buy their own house...

I see the TV license payer's money is being put to good use... :o

Why don't you all stop paying the TV tax in protest as it appears to be funding VI spin?

I don't own a TV and therefore don't pay any TV tax and certainly don't feel like I'm missing out on the brainwashing! :P

Yes, BBC motto should be changed to 'all aboard the debt slave contol ship!'

Much of this banal filth is also often repeated at 1 to 4am in the morning, let alone being constantly churned around on the other freeview /sky channels.

Rather ironic considering that new build houses & rooms are getting increasingly smaller. Like a Government sponsored population shut-in. Soon they won't be able to get out the doors.

I just read the most excellent book 'Fat Land: How Americans Became the Fattest People in the World' quite horrifyingly true. The uk is not that far behind.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0141015...8-1&seller=

"Fat Land reveals why America is now the fattest nation on the planet (apart from South Seas Islands) with 60 per cent of its population overweight; how cheap fats and sugars introduced into diest in the 70s helped make calories stick; how ruthless marketing by fast-food companies ensured that portions (and waistlines) kept on growing; and how every aspect of American life--class politics, TV, family--contributed to the supersising of a nation.

Disarmingly funny about every diet fad, Critser casts his critical eye over the lies people have been telling themselves about how much they eat and how little they exercise, and shows, frighteningly, how children are the chief victims of a Fat America. "

A massive social issue. more important than smoke, boozing or drugs, considering that the vast majority of deaths are related to cardiovascular diseases.

For once Jamie Oliver was right. Our generation will bury their kids.

It's ironic how lunatic this country has become about health and safety yet NOTHING has been done about the people's actual health, eating or exercising habits....

But surely most HPC forum members are obsessed and equally brianwashed - just with a different message. It will be denied of course but I can assure from the point of view of an impartial observer - its very obvious...

Obsessed probably. But the information people use here has been sought out by own initiative not repeatedly spammed at them by mass media.

Nice self-elected position of impartial observer, why don't you go the whole hog and just call yourself Casual Observer, seems there's a vacancy going.

You're a cretin, you will deny it of course but l can assure you from the point of view of a qualified cretin identifier - its very obvious... See how easy, and entirely without value, that was?

I know you are joking but your first suggestion would fulfill a useful service esp. if it included some info on tenant's rights etc. There used to be a thing along the "property porn" template with used cars that was pretty useful, I can't remember what it was called. Quite a lot of "tell him he's having a giraffe" and "tell him to shove it, there are thousands of cars of that model about you can buy instead if he won't shift". Probably saved a few meek punters a few quid by showing them that, yes, you can be rude to a used car salesman and he may still want to do you a deal. One of the things about property porn is that there is very little to learn as a buyer in a seller's market where you have Krusty insisting everyone pay top dollar to 'secure the property'. This is one of the reasons those programmes are so tiresome. They might be moderately interesting in a falling market if they are still going then.

The one I saw they spent ten minutes waiting for the adopted and therefore ineligible son to stary crying on the telly after finding out (a) his real father was dead and (B) adoption meant he wasn't getting any money at all.

Of course it's the perfect changeover from property to inheritance, same 'getting money for nothing' but someone pays for it in the end

Hpc Hero Martin Lewis blames property porn for helping to create the big misconceptions:

"A Nation Hypnotised By TV Property Porn? Property isn’t as safe as houses

Monday September 18th, 2006

I’ve just come back from doing BBC Breakfast where I talked about mortgages following the CAB’s report that many are struggling to meet their repayments.....

......My view is much of the problem has been caused by TV property porn shows. Many of the property gurus, often, understandably, work in the property industry themselves, and of course therefore are quite happy to see continued price rises. There’s so much of this on our TV screens that we’ve been hypnotised into certain beliefs about property ownership. Let me set out some of what I believe are the misconceptions:

We’ve been hypnotised to believe…

1. Property ownership is a right

If you don’t own a home, you’re seen as the underclass and renting is pooh-poohed as a dirty word. Of course in the long term home ownership is a good goal, yet this is confused with “I must immediately get on the housing ladder or I’m a loser.” ......

2. House prices can only go up

You hear this all the time, and when it’s challenged by a sensible ‘well property prices could drop’, many people reply ‘yes, yes of course that’s true but they’re not going to are they, especially not in (INSERT WHERE YOU LIVE)?’............

3. Not owning a house is a terrible thing for your finances

Charlie, the Breakfast TV presenter, asked me a question that reflects the view of many in the UK today, “but surely if you’re paying rent when you could be paying off a mortgage, you’re throwing your cash away?” .......

4. If a mortgage company will lend it you can afford it

The average house price in the UK is £180,000. To get a mortgage for a property worth that much, as a single person you would need a salary of £50,000 and as a couple a joint income of £70,000. Now take a look at the UK’s average earnings of around £25k. This quite simply means that home ownership is unaffordable for many.........

(He spells out these in detail on the link)

Very true. But, logically, wouldn't that imply that all members of HPC are into "snuff" porn?

When the crash happens the last thing shown on tv will be property ladder. With 'OOO look how much money these thick nakkers have made!' bits at the end. People would kick the TV in anger if they are in negative equity.
