The Bank of England's MPC is due to decide whether to raise interest rates today

The closely watched NTC report on jobs showed that wages for permanent staff were increasing at the most rapid rate since 2000, when borrowing costs were 6pc.

Its pay barometer, in which a figure above 50 represents higher salaries, rose from 63.6 to 64.8 points.

It will worry the Bank's Monetary Policy Committee, which is due to decide whether to raise interest rates from 5.5pc at noon today.
