Bootle Sees Rates Going Above 6%

Recommended Posts

Is that the same bloke that said house prices would be down 20% in 2003?

he's obviously playing it safe this time. 6% !! this guy must be the oracle

he's a joke - a year ago he was predicting IRs back at 3.5%

Roger Bootle used to be excellent. I read him every day when I was managing an investment portfolio in the mid 90s and he would make all the clever calls; he knew his stuff.

The last few years he seems to have entirely lost it. He's just fallen back into the herd and isn't worth listening to. I remember his low interest rate prediction (was it 3.5%?), it seeemed like he'd forgotten everything he ever knew about money supply.

Yes, I believe he made that prediction after the rate cut in August 2005 saying rates would fall to 3.5% by the end of 2006.

Astoundingly bad these days. One too many City lunches.

He used to be seriously good, it's been a real shock to me teh last few years when I go through an article of rubbish and it would come to Roger Bootle whereupon I thought "aha, the voice of reason" and he would then be as bad as the rest if not worse.

Didn't he write the book "death of inflation"... I guess he was one of those money supply doesn't matter people...

(Not that i've read the book)

He even retracted his HPC prediction, he could have just delayed it. I guess he'll be wrong on that one as well!

TBH I would be very wary of any Economist who writes a book titled Death Of Inflation.

You can now buy it for the princely sum of $0.01 Used - Good

Did he not make his name originally predicting the last HPC ? Well I predicted the same but unfortunately I did not receive the Prima Donna status he achieved. :D

It's like one of those horror movies, everyone thinks the monster is dead but it suddenly leaps back into life to bite you in the a$$.
