boony
I am downloading the broadband quality version from the BBC at the moment. I will attempt to clean it up and isolate the HPC part and get back to you shortly. This is how I got it onto youtube - I have the clip in DivX that I uploaded to youtube - it's better quality running from your HD - youtube must have re-encoded it or something. I can upload it if anyone wants it - about 17MB Edited April 14, 2007 by boony
Killer Bunny
We would have loved to have got this recorded properly for you and the site FP and I am really sorry we didn't. Next time though if you are doing something like this please pop me and email brendan@housepricecrash.co.uk before hand and I will arrange a recording. Obviously the recording is not for me but for the site - your site! As to you needing more advance notcie, how much more notice would you need - the thread was redhot for a few days. But I will email you in any case in the future. Delighted to see that you can record and then upload, as many others will want to see after the event (and show other people). The site is coming into its own - make the most of this amazing opportunity (bus wise).
RichM
Absolute quality FP, really brilliant stuff. Well done you. How did it come together? Was the site approached?

RichM
Nice one. Next time I'm happy to go on as an example FTB. I have over 3000 posts and I am devastatingly good looking - even if I say nothing sensible, I'll still win over the viewers.
Guest grumpy-old-man
Huh?!!! Pls explain. am I right in thinking you are Evan Davis & PaulM was the guy you interviewed at his house, as owner of hpc? obviously not judging by your reply. Guest grumpy-old-man
This one is better but youtube is being a bit slow: I think grumpy-old-man got a bit confused and thought paulm was on the news and not you FP. Well done on the piece you came across professional and highly credible as usual it was very exciting to watch I think I should have read the replies in order....bu55er. just watched it again, Johnathon not PaulM. anyway, good exposure for hpc & more to come hopefully. foft
Obviously the recording is not for me but for the site - your site! If you are still after a recording I have one. I tried to post yesterday, but had neglected to create a user (and validation takes time). Anyway its a recording of the full MPEG2 transport stream as broadcast by Sky. So about 1GB! I can send a DVD with the file or upload somewhere. Can also transcode it to another format (e.g. divx) if you like.
margesimpson
I think a lot of people will have tried to find this site only to find the server couldn't cope. Shame in a way, but just shows the impact of BBC coverage.

I've put a copy (full intro + HPC section only) on my web server for now at: http://ssh.scrameta.net/HPCNews.mpg Also a smaller divx version (Still fairly good quality I think) at: http://ssh.scrameta.net/HPCNews.avi I'll remove them tomorrow, so please post back if you got them ok. Converted Lurker
Are you suggesting that the Halifax is preparing the way for a correction or the BBC or the government? Why would they want to do that ? Surely they want to keep ramping the market for all its worth ? Well we could approach a situation were you lend 15 times income and the borrower defaults in month two and is repossessed in month seven. I'm being a bit twattish but you get the point. Lenders, with all their access to data, know when enough is enough and they will have the nod from the BoE months before the game's up, in terms up contracting money supply As for the Halifax key worker report it was a brilliant coup, right on the money, perfectly timed, embraced by the media across so many platforms, that takes a lot more precision organisation than spending 30K a year with some of my pr chums to get you the odd mention in the red tops after a 5 paragraph press release. Killer Bunny
Not sure if anyone's posted it already, but here's the BBC clip. http://news.bbc.co.uk/player/nol/newsid_65...bw=bb&mp=wm BB Why does Real Player open but the item does not play? Can we have it as a WMP? Also why when I Save Target As and then then try to open it opens a new email and is found as an attachment? What ca I do to save it and then play it? Many thanks
Jonnybegood
Its been quite a week on the bbc news, I have followed what I can and now feel really sorry for those just waiting for a HPC. Start of the week there was a slot on the 6 o'clock news talking about the way britain has changed over the past 5 years, Many more of us now living alone. It had a couple of people saying how they prefered for the time being to live alone, But one day to buy somewhere with someone else. This goes against all whats been said about prices being unaffordable and many having to shack up together just to buy. It also sends out the message that housing demand is going to increase over the next few years if this trend continues. Then April 12th a big day on housing for the BBC - The first article "where now for house prices" it was the first indication of things look set to change and that the bubble looks set to burst, Telling homeowners with larger mortgages to get ready and prepare yourselves. So this article I thought was a good bit of news for the HPCers http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6549299.stm Then on the 6 o'clock news slot another housing bit regarding key workers and their chances of buying property. To buy in the area they work is at an all time low. Did'nt really know how to take this because it in some ways keeps the HPI wagon rolling, Prices always go up and will continue to and key workers will need affordable housing etc. The same piece also went on to say that mortgages were still affordable, 17% of a persons take home pay again more HPI spin, get on the market now while you still can. Finally it showed some EX MOD houses being sold and people camping out overnight to buy and the price £150,000 still not cheap. http://search.bbc.co.uk/cgi-bin/search/res...l&link=next Key workers 12/04/2007 Then at 10pm we had the famous FP and the under pressure investor, I still think they knew what they were doing by putting all the HPI stuff on earlier and the HPC stuff on later, 10pm on a Friday night. I think most would of watched the 6pm news and gone out for the evening with that firmly in their heads, HPI to continue. Finally a point on the 10pm piece, I thought it was great and FP really put his point over, But for many the 4-6 year wait for a correction to take full effect may be to long and that is if it does ever happen. So I feel many will still take the plunge now while rates are still fairly low.

About 1.5MB (50KB/s (orginal ADSL) * 30s) won't be very good quality. I'll see if I can find a free wmv encoder and do another version... Thanks, Mark

I can see how you must be getting desperate Not at all, I like many have been sitting back and not diving in. Taking each article , media report etc on its own merit. What I see now is greater exposure to the fact that prices will not/cannot continue to rise, the 10 o 'clock news on friday was the most open and un biased I have seen in the main stream media. (You have to remember many do not buy papers and 1 paper may have bullish news the next bearish, it depends what you pick up that morning) BBC news is a great place for HPC exposure. But having done my own bit of research on the side am trying to build a worst/best case scenario for both sides of what the next 5 years will unfold into, FP stated that 4-6 years we will see at least a 25% correction and this falls in line with my figures also, To many it will be a case of i'll take a chance now for some it will still be worth holding out a little longer. I think the BBC have been very clever in the way they have handle the data this week, giving some HPC exposure but at the same time continuing to feed the HPI spin at the so called prime time slots

Many thanks OK, there's a MP4 version for Quicktime, download from here: http://www.houseprices.uk.net/articles/bbc_news_13apr07/ I’ll leave it up for a day or so, depending on how the bandwidth works out, etc. MP4’s can also be viewed using WMP provided that you install an MPEG-4 codec, for example, http://www.3ivx.com/

I didn't have much luck with wmv, so went back to xvid. 30 seconds download for plain 512kbit ADSL is too hopeful... I've put up a <4MB 320x180 one. http://ssh.scrameta.net/HPCNewsSmall.avi Or a bit more reasonable <5.5MB 480x270 one http://ssh.scrameta.net/HPCNewsLarge.avi

Killer Bunny
FP stated that 4-6 years we will see at least a 25% correction and this falls in line with my figures also, The BBC did not do anything concerted. 25% will be the minimum national average fall. Regionally it will be much higher in places. Nationally it will be more than 25% but one doesn't want to frighten the sheeple does one...? How do I save the article to my hard drive? When I saved target as and tried to open it it appeared as an attachment to an email. Can it not be a WMP file which can be saved stand alone? Why is it held at hp.uk.net? Really appreciate everyone's help in this. Pls remember I, for one, am absolutely not techie.
