red
http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article...ding/article.do get a load of this guy: This is yet more bad press aimed at Gordon Brown by those who seek to wreck the Chancellor's natural succession to the Premiership. Gordon Brown is the most successful Chancellor in living memory and has managed to steer the economy through ten years of continuous growth whilst maintaining low inflation, low unemployment and low interest rates. Homeowners have benefited greatly through record breaking house prices and will continue to do so for very many years to come thanks to the Chancellor's leadership. - Mark Jefferson, London, England What an @rse. Apologies, I couldn't resist. I imagine the person at the Standard could not believe their luck when they read it. It was literally uploaded within seconds of my sending it. Funny, that. PricedOutNative
And this, as they say, is only the beginning not the end! Or did you mean: "Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. but it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning. " W. Churchill
Europa
FTB's can at last see the light at the end of the tunnel. Really? Slightly higher interest rates (denting your affordability) in a market that has shrugged off recent rises to return continued growth? Good news indeed. Given that a rate of 5.5pc is hardly earth shattering news, and expectations are that this will mark the top of the current cycle, why the excitement? There is a tipping point with rising interest rates where house prices will fall accordingly. Anyone knows that it is preferable to buy lower priced houses with high interest rates than highly priced houses with low interest rates. I'd doubt that you will have high priced houses with high interest rates - least not in the long term. Agree, NoIdea - but I suspect that 5.5pc won't be enough to take the heat out of the market; at least not in overheated areas like London. If 5.5pc is indeed a peak (which is open to debate), then I can't see FTBs being better off.

For those who thinks rates are going to continue trending up.. http://www.bloomberg.com/markets/rates/uk.html We still got an inverse yield curve.. Well, the market seems to think that rates will be heading back down soon enough. I suspect they will the minute the UK economy starts to show stress fractures.. Objective Developer
They bought their tickets. They knew what they were getting into. I say, let 'em crash! Do you know what it feels like, to fall, in the mud, and get kicked in the head? With an iron boot? Of course not, no one does, that never happens! It’s a dumb question, skip that…. drrayjo
there was still Sheriff Fatman tho'/quote] Interestingly enough, Roger Cook is making a comeback soon, with a 'Best Of' and 'What Happened Next' style 1.5hr TV special. Is this a sign of a general return to early 90s angst and recession?! (and good music)
