yep those were the days. when we didn't have to worry about HPI....or burning fingers

there was still Sheriff Fatman tho'

Sheriff Fatman started out in business

as a granny farmer

He was infamous for fifteen minutes

And he appeared in Panorama

Then he somehow got himself on board

The Starship Enterprise Allowance Scheme

With a Price of Wales award

for pushing valium and amphetamines

CHORUS

Now he's moving up onto second base

Behind Nicholas Van Wotsisface

At six foot six and a hundred tons

The undisputed king of the slums

More aliases than Klaus Barbie

The master butcher of Leigh-on-Sea

Just about to take the stage

The one and only

Hold the front page

Fatman's got something to sell

To the capitol's homeless

At the Crossroads Hotel

For the no-fixed-abodeless

Where you can live life in style

You can sleep in a closet

And if you flash him a smile

He'll take your teeth as a deposit

There's bats in the belfry

The windows are jammed

The toilets ain't healthy

And he don'T give a damn

He just chuckles and smiles

And laughs like a madman

A born again Rachman

Here comes Sheriff Fatman

With his valium, amphetamines

His sick notes and his phoney prescriptions

And just when yo thought it was safe

To go back in the kitchen, dead legs and cracked heads

Bunk-beds and breakfasts

Wake up you sleepy headcases...check this...

Moving up now to take the place

Of Nicholas Van Wotsisface

At six foot six and a hundred tons

The undisputed king of the slums

With more aliases than Klaus Barbie

The master butcher of Leigh-on-Sea

In a hatchback from Notre Dame

The one and only Sheriff Fatman

In goes another left hook

And now I'm losing my patience

Someone call up Roger Cook and the United Nations

He's buying up houses for hasbeens (help me)

>From Lands End to Southend to Chelsea

There's bats in the belfrey

The windows are jammed

The toilets ain't healthy

He don't give a damn

He just chuckles and smiles

And laughs like a madman

Ladies and gentlemen,

I give you...

Sheriff Fatman!

Top track. Brought back memories.

Was it Carter Unstoppable Sex Machine as featured in Deadline?

I was at their gig in the Barrowlands, Glasgow in 1992 - brilliant night!

Still chuckle when I see the footage of Fruitbat pi$$ing- off Philip Schofield.

get a load of this guy:

This is yet more bad press aimed at Gordon Brown by those who seek to wreck the Chancellor's natural succession to the Premiership.

Gordon Brown is the most successful Chancellor in living memory and has managed to steer the economy through ten years of continuous growth whilst maintaining low inflation, low unemployment and low interest rates. Homeowners have benefited greatly through record breaking house prices and will continue to do so for very many years to come thanks to the Chancellor's leadership.

- Mark Jefferson, London, England

What an @rse.

 Apologies, I couldn't resist. I imagine the person at the Standard could not believe their luck when they read it. It was literally uploaded within seconds of my sending it. Funny, that.

FTB's can at last see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Really?

Slightly higher interest rates (denting your affordability) in a market that has shrugged off recent rises to return continued growth? Good news indeed.

Given that a rate of 5.5pc is hardly earth shattering news, and expectations are that this will mark the top of the current cycle, why the excitement? <_<

There is a tipping point with rising interest rates where house prices will fall accordingly.

Anyone knows that it is preferable to buy lower priced houses with high interest rates than highly priced

houses with low interest rates.

I'd doubt that you will have high priced houses with high interest rates - least not in the long term.

Agree, NoIdea - but I suspect that 5.5pc won't be enough to take the heat out of the market; at least not in overheated areas like London.

If 5.5pc is indeed a peak (which is open to debate), then I can't see FTBs being better off.

For those who thinks rates are going to continue trending up..

http://www.bloomberg.com/markets/rates/uk.html

We still got an inverse yield curve..

Well, the market seems to think that rates will be heading back down soon enough. I suspect they will the minute the UK economy starts to show stress fractures..

Interestingly enough, Roger Cook is making a comeback soon, with a 'Best Of' and 'What Happened Next' style 1.5hr TV special. Is this a sign of a general return to early 90s angst and recession?! (and good music)
