Hi,

Some advice please?

I moved out of an appartment over a month ago and have not yet had my deposit paid back to me, is this a reasonable amount of time to wait? If I get hassle with the return then how can I go about legally reclaiming it please?

I have been pre-occupied with my mum's illness and death in the last month to really have this at the top of my agenda.

Happy New Year to you all

Frank.

Frank, I am so terribly sorry to hear about your mum; my heart goes out to you and this deposit hassle is the last thing you need right now; I hope the links below help you as much as possible. It seems from my initial perusal of the links that you should have recieved your deposit on the day you moved out, if there was no objection from the landlord re: wear and tear, etc.

Hi,

Thanks for that, I've tried to contact the Landlord via phone and got nowhere, so now I am going to start taking steps. Can't believe the hassle I'm having as I would say I was an exemplerary tenant...... ****!

Regards

Frank

frank - you are not the only one. we have been waiting 7 months (purely because I had been having regular phone chats with the landlord where he was promising it would be coming next week...) but I am now in the process of the warning letter then notice that we're taking him to court. This hasn't been helped by the fact that the Royal Mail have lost the 1st letter asking him to politely pay up within 2 weeks (sent by recorded delivery!!!) TWICE. The people before us nicked his sofa but we paid all the bills, paid all rent on time and even wrote off a week's rent at the end because we had pulled out of purchasing the flat (thankfully) etc etc.
