Who Saw "tonight With Trevor Macdonald"

Recommended Posts

Guest Alright Jack

I missed it, but understand it was about Romanians possibly coming here next year, and all that.

Do please fill me in.

Sounds like more house price ramping to me from the under supply / over demand crowd.

I saw it

Annoying and depressing. I don't think it was a VI job. More a case of showing what a mess this country really is.

They revealed that the Home Office don't know how many immigrants there are, and they declined an interview. I am DISGUSTED with the HO and the govt in general. They haven't a f****g clue what is going on and yet they are in charge. Scared? You should be petrified! Please don't bleat about the Tories, THIS GOVT is the most INCOMPETENT, ARROGANT, USELESS bunch of idiots EVER to be in power in this country. It couldn't be worse if the place was run by 11 year olds.

For some reason unknow to me everyone in Eastern Europe thinks that the UK standard of living is superb. Basically, they see the UK, the way we see the US. There was a guy who was living quite a nice life over there but seems to think that it will be better in the UK.

Who on earth is propelling this propaganda?

Doesn't he realise that he won't be able to afford a rabbit hutch when he gets here?

They are looking at how much we earn, but not looking at the cost of living. So of course it looks like the land of plenty. When you are paying Polish living costs and being paid British wages, you can live like a king. This is why they come for 2 years, live in relative poverty and then leave. The money they have saved will set them up back home. The problem is, this prices people who want to stay in the country out of the equation, as they need to meet the cost of living in the Britain and can't afford to take jobs with wages so low they can't pay rent or a mortgage in the area they are living in/from.

The current government have done quite literally nothing about the problem. If you have a Labour MP or a Labour councillor, ask them how this immigration will affect you...

Do you honestly think that economic immigrants come here with the intention of buying a 3 bed semi and a dog?! I'm sorry but I'm sure Poles and other eastern europeans are savvy enough to come and earn a Polish doctor's salary by picking spuds or whatever and take/ send the money home

It's all about the benefits. That is only reason they come here. WAKE UP UK!

Actually, the uncontrolled shambolic mess they have (most likely deliberately) allowed to occur in immigration from the accession countries could well be the thing that stops Labour getting re-elected (I had hoped the war in Iraq would persude people, but that little mess doesn't seem to be enough :( ). If enough people start to question the wisdom of very high immigration to surpress wage inflation at exactly the same time as a massive housing boom, pricing a generation of FTBs out and also countless generations of 'ladder climbers' out of their next move, maybe people will start seeing sense.

I would advise you all to watch the programme, if you possibly can manage to.

There's too much to discuss in a post but suffice to say, the net effect of immigration is -ve.

Council taxes will have to rise in high influx areas, school and hospitals are struggling with the number of people not being able to speak english (although this is quite localised). The infrastructure is on it's knees now............but they'll pay tax so the future looks rosy

Oh and they don't all do jobs that the Brits won't do (favourite myth of PC clowns and greedy businessmen) - they do jobs that the Brits will do, too, but cheaper. A group of welders from Scotland will testify to that. They were told 'work had dried up' and dismissed. 2 days later, Eastern Europeans were working on their site.

I think we'll see a return of the early 80's. Discontent, unrest, unemployment, riots.

I don't believe it is, I think that is just an incidental side benefit that some eagle eyed Polish person has spotted. It might be more about the benefits if Romania and Bulgaria are allowed the same unrestricted access to the UK employment market, but I can't see the govenment being able/prepared to finance that, they have mounting deficits as it is.

It's a well known fact that elections are won on the Economy.

The public will pay 'lip service' and express disgust at the Iraq war but when it comes down to it, all they really care about, is the pound in their pocket.

Unemployment/wrecked economy/house price collapse are what's needed to see labour banished to room 101

Yes, perhaps the greatest myth perpetuated about eastern european immigrants is that they are all fruit pickers. They are computer programmers, administrative staff, mechanics, scientists, tradesmen of all types..etc. Many are entering areas where there is no skills shortage, and any shortage that does exist is often due to the British employer's inability to keep their existing staff current or retrain them when new skills are required.

Somewhere along the line (mid to late eighties) the moral responsibility that employers have to employees, vanished, and HM governement did not step into the gap...

You are probably right, but I think that by now both uncontrolled immigration and the war in Iraq are hastening the economic collapse :)

The Eastern European migrant workers seem a very hard working group of people, good luck to them.

I hope you don't lose your job to one.

No I don't believe that the Poles came her to sponge off us either, altho' I do believe some newcomers do. As to your comment on them not all being fruit pickers. I agree with that too.

We are told of all the dentists who are about to descend on us... why do we need so many? I suspect it is because the home-grown variety has left - disillusioned by high prices and measly pay rises.

Imagine the outcome if all the trained professionals and artisans leave the country, attracted by better standards of living. They will be welcome in other countries, and they will pass the vetting procedures. What happens to the people who are disabled or not sufficiently skilled enough to be made welcome elsewhere?

Why they will be left with all the "passing through" types and the scrimshankers. :( What a lovely world this so-called Socialist government is creating, for the people to whom it was once committed to serving. The underdogs in society.

So much for Labour's empty rhetoric. B)

trained professionals and artisans?? Is there a drain on 'trained professionals'? London's chock full of bloody lawyers and accountants... as for British artisans, compared to Poles they are overpaid, shoddy dossers. And most expats I've met are drunken tossers...

Well if we are chock full of professionals - like dentists - WTF are they all flooding in from Poland for? At least that is what we are being told.

There will be a glut of lawyers, encouraged by the lucratic work funded by the British taxpayer, whereby any bugger and his dog who can buy, lie or creep into the country, can - as soon as he sets foot in good ole blighty - claim "sanctuary" and we mugs pay for the privilege of getting rid of them.

A lot less lawyers and a lot more artisans are what is needed.

The economy is not a zero-sum game. The more people in the economy who have jobs, the more money there is to generate more jobs. Everybody can 'win'. Plenty of Polish people working hard, getting jobs and paying their taxes makes the economy stronger, makes the government richer and makes it easier for you to get a job.
