Thames Water to cut 25% of jobs

Thames Water is planning to axe up to 25% of its workforce as part of a major efficiency drive that would see 300 jobs go each year until 2010.

The firm said compulsory redundancies would be kept to a minimum and voluntary cutbacks considered.

The GMB union said it aimed to ensure no front-line jobs were cut and that investment continued.

The company, owned by German firm RWE, has been criticised over water leaks during the summer heatwave.
