Firms sign up to anti-lap dancing charter

Reuters

Tuesday August 22, 09:21 AM

DUBLIN (Reuters) - Nearly 50 companies in Ireland have signed up to a charter pledging not to spend corporate cash at lap dancing clubs.
The charter was launched in June by a Dublin-based support group for women working in prostitution and the sex industry in a bid to highlight the exploitation of women.
"We wanted to raise awareness and challenge some of the myths that this is innocent fun," Gerardine Rowley, a spokeswoman for the Ruhama group said on Tuesday.
"We're concerned that the emergence of the lap dancing industry in Ireland has normalised the selling of women's bodies for sexual activities."
Rowley said Ruhama, a non-governmental organisation, had worked with women,
many of them from eastern Europe
, who came to work in lap dancing clubs and ended up in prostitution.

Some obviously sense an upside to the E European immigration? But isn't this side of immigration based soley on exploitation? Could the UK be taking advantage also by paying substandard wages and expecting them to live 10 to a BTL?

How the hell do you extrapolate that from an article about lap dancing??? Sometimes I wonder why you bother posting an article to accompany your polemic on the state of the nation. The two things rarely seem to have any connection...

If you think Eastern European lapdancers are on substandard incomes you clearly frequent rather low class establishments.

How many of these East European ladies have been checked for HIV I can tell you NONE !!!!!

Who is exploiting who.

Ireland will have to send them all home because when this all comes crashing down the only economy Ireland will have will be planting potatoes again !!!!

Quite right :)

And I for one intend to commit as much as possible of my T&E account to lap-dancing establishments in future to support our fellow Europeans.

Ever closer union B)
